    Virus help.

I have a virus in my system i think.

When i try and open a programme there is an anti virus installed called "system tool"- I didnt put it there.
Now it wont let me open my AVG or Windows Defender or even do a system restore. Its just keeps coming up.
Any thoughts on how i can get rid of this?

    Anyone?
It wont let me open anything or run anything either! Grrrrrrrrrrrr

    Yep just done them myself.
It will not let me run anything.

mate had this spyware/virus and went over last night and sorted it out

download comboxfix boat into Windows in safe mode with networking support and run Combofix - take about 30 minutes but does clear the virus.

Zapp- What is safe mode- How do i do this?
    Sorry im a complete novice.

you are going to have to google these terms and follow the advice it offers or pay someone to do it for you. I know that sounds rude but it's either that or keep off the internet, stop downloading dodgy programs , installing toolbars, to avoid spyware/malware/ viruses etc

when you start up your computer keep pressing F8 until a menu appears with various options - you select Safe Mode with Networking Support (think its 3rd option) - I recommend you download the combofix application before hand and save it to the desktop.

Run crapcleaner and bin avg for microsofts own av

    'system tool'

I was 3 days trying to get rid of this from my daughter's laptop. I'll tell you now - you're wasting your time with any of the 'fix' solutions offered here. just google it to see the extent of the problem. Save your time and energy. Back up what you need to keep then re-format and re-install.
    Please, trust me on this.

I had this virus recently. What I did was:
    1. ran task manager [type in taskmgr in start menu], then clicked, on processes and arranged the processes by how much memory they were using.

    2. I looked for anything suspicious [google the names of the processes to be sure], and that was using up a lot of memory, and clicked on 'end process'.

    3. Of course I noted down the name, and then found the file on my computer, and deleted it. Then after that I would run my anti-virus tools to make sure nothing is left behind.

This solved the problem for me, but ideally I would have formatted my computer, however I don't have the time at the moment.

Can i ask if a system restore would work in safe mode for it to be removed if this Malware doesnt pick it up?

Malwarebytes in safemode is how I got rid on my sisters laptop, you shouldnt need to format & reinstall.

Honestly, if you don't know how to re-install, then your chances of removing this piece of sh-it is less than zero, and re-install will be your only option (sorry about the French but these things really, really annoy me).
Have you got the installation/Windows discs?

Cool, still just waiting for it to finish- Not picked up anything so far and its been scanning for 1hour and 34.

You definately shouldn't need to reformat due to a virus, common misconception, there's always a fix.
If the current solutions posted do not work, I suggest going back into Safe Mode with Networking (make sure networking one), downloading CCleaner program. Click Tools -> Startup
and look for a suspicious item listed (if your struggling can send me a PM with a picture of the list, like a print screen). Disable it, this will make sure the virus does NOT boot up when you log into windows normally, then you should hopefully be able to run your anti-virus scan and rid it.

tbh i would just do what dcx says.

It shows how useless AVG really is.

Yeah, there is always a fix but it's not just as easy as saying it. I have fair to good computer skills yet I spent 3 days with this before finally giving up. Obviously the OP has little knowledge of computer workings so imo re-install is her only option unless she knows someone who can fix it for her.

Right Malware has picked nothing up..
    So back to square one.

    Yep virus still here.
Just restarted and gone into normal mode and it is still here.

    So formatting it is..
Now can i do this in normal mode or safe mode (i know in safe mode alot of my photo files are missing).
