    Visa Requirement Travel to USA

I am going on holiday to Florida in August and understand that i need to complete an online visa application form.

Do you have to pay for the visa? I have looked at a few s ites and prices seem to vary just wondered if people were just trying to scam money for processing the forms?

    Thanks for any advice.

dont thnk brits need visa to enter us... all you have to do is fill ESTA 3 days prior to departure

this is what ive got from my travel insurance provider

    * Who should apply for an ESTA?
The ESTA ruling applies to anyone travelling to the USA under its visa waiver scheme, which allows British passport holders to visit the country for up to 90 days without a visa.

    * Why do I need an ESTA?
The ESTA is a compulsory pre-checking scheme enabling the Department of Homeland Security to determine whether an individual is eligible to enter the United States prior to departure.

    * How much does an ESTA cost?
    Nothing, it's free.

    * What do I need to include in my ESTA application?
Enter your personal information into an online form to include your name, date of birth and passport details, as well as details of your flight number and destination address in the USA.

    * How long is an ESTA valid for?
2 years and it will allow multiple visits to the USA within that time.

Just returned from Florida, and we filled the online form in and it does NOT cost you a penny if you go to the site direct (PM me if you need link), you will still need to fill in the VISA waver forms in on the aircraft though as it is not yet fully operational. Have a great time.

    Your right!

Yup, just got back from the US and they will still make you fill in the green visa waiver form, but you still need to to fill the online form out at least 3 days before you travel. Here's the link: cbp.gov/xp/…ta/ the form is where you click "Apply Here"

You should not pay a penny to do this, the companies are trying to scam money from people for something that is free! Have a good trip!

does anyone know how I would go about finding out if my friends conviction will stop him being able to go to the states?

How do you find out - simple answer is that you can't as the US embassy can't give a yes or no without seeing that person's criminal record first.

People can guess if they'll need a visa or not but generally if the crime is bad enough to need a visa then they won't get a visa

    So what's the crime?

fraud, he served 6 weeks in prison 12 years ago for it. lol...

Thanks again for all of the advice i was dubious about the companies offering the 'service' - dodgy beggars.

I was speaking to a friend the other day about this, he works as a trader for a well known US bank and travels there quite a lot for work and he was saying that he hasn't filled in a pre-approval form yet and has never had problems upon arrival so I wonder how "compulsory" it really is!
