it may be a crappy built up town but what town isnt built up, Chatham has a good supply of shops and history for those who are looking for that type of interest.

I doubt you will find a cottage as we are not rural but we have a Youth hostal in a out of town area which has good access to activitys.

Plenty of caravan parks in the area, my mum and dad have booked a week in late June in North Kent for £145 for the week in a static caravan. Very near to Whitstable, about 15 miles from Sittingborne. I used to drive from Bolton to Sheerness in 6 hours, time of day is important as traffic can be very heavy round Dartford Crossing and M25. The route I used to take was M62 to A1(M), then A14 to M11 then M25 across Dartford Crossing and M2 but as always check roadworks, at the time there were major roadworks at the bottom of M1 so used to avoid it.
