As far as travel cards go, just use contactless payment at the barrier. TfL will work out the cheapest fare for you as long as you use the same card for each journey.

whats the max charge per person per day?

TfL website has everything you need to know. Under 16s are free. You need to know the price underground zones which is explained in the website.

Below is a link for a PDF document you can download which has all the fares listed.

Basically its £12.30 per adult if you stay within zones 1-4 which covers Central London and all the touristy stuff. You can use as many trains, buses and tubes as you like and will be debited one amount on your bank account a day or so after. You can create a TFL account and link it to your bank card to check afterwards and appeal if you have any issues. Under 11s will require an Oyster Photocard to get free travel.

Check Time Out website or magazine for events, there are always dozens X)
