Before doing this ensure you can get 64bit drivers for all the hardware in your PC.

There is still a lot of hardware around that does not have 64 bit Vista drivers.

Don't do it. I have 64bit Vista, nightmare with drivers and very slow for me

I think there is even LESS drivers for XP 64 bit than Vista 64 bit.

The time for 64 bit will come, but I think it is a tad early for mainstream use.

This article is about a year old (since last update) but gives a brief overview of why the world is not ready for 64 bit Windows yet

Last updated three days before Vista's launch, so it was probably written based on the writer's experience with the pre-release versions.

If you've got 6-8GB+ of ram then check for drivers for all your bits and if they're availible I'd go for it.
