VISTA makes OFFICE CRASH?

I have been talking to a couple of friends who have bought laptops with vista on - some pretty powerful spec apparently (around £1000 ) but they say that OFFICE doesnt work well with it, keeps crashing, Im a pHd student and cant afford to be without WORD. I really like the idea of VISTA but am wondering whther i should shell out the extra for XP.

HAs anyone else had sinilar bad experiences with office and vista?

Office works fine on my Desktop and Laptop which are both running Vista Home Premium.

No problems running Office and Vista here, the main problem I've had between Vista and MS applications are the 2000 developer tools however MS make it clear they are not supported, you can't install them without it warning you.

John

Worked fine for me when I had that combination

Home Premium and Office 2007 here; no problems.

Thanks John. What do you mean - sorry - not very techy!

I have Office and Vista and they work fine. Office wasn't preloaded onto the PC, I installed it from the disk and haven't had any problems.

manufacturers are slowing releasing vista compatable, having a mare atm with vista,at work people who have vista have a right merry go round trying to intall our isp software. Our internet security is not compatable with vista. Check with your isp about installing your drivers etc on vista computer. You may need to go to 3rd party download sites to down load newer ones so can be compatable with vista.I had vista on mine at home but uninstalled it. I will reinstall it when service pack 1 is out for it, bug fixes etc. Till then people are having problems.

Your ISP is compatible with Vista it might be your router thats not, unless your connecting via ethernet it would work fine

Vista works with Word without a problem your office friends are all lieing!

I work on technical support where people ring me to fix there pc problems and internet connections for an isp lol so i get alot of Vista problems.
what im sayin is to have our internet on a vista machine cmrs have a merry dance installing it.
ie registrations have to be done on another pc ( ie libruary or friends house) which doesnt have vista
Installations are going ok but alot are having probs installing the ips driver software. We end up having to do manual installations, deleting the diallers and reinstalling manually.

Vista hasnt had problems with word or anything which ive come across yet.
Like i said when service pack 1 comes out it will sort all these teething problems out

I've had Vista for a couple of months now and it works fine with MS Word. The only issue I have, and I believe it is a common one, is that Microsoft Explorer freezes (It may be something to do with going in to start menu, I'm not too sure). This doesn't freeze the computer itself as such, ie, if you were working on something in word you can save it and restart computer, it's just a big pain!

Basically nothing you need to worry about - I've been responsible for compatibility testing with Vista at work, within the company I work for there is a reasonable amount of software development carried out. With this in mind I was testing using existing software tools (for programming mainly), these were the only Microsoft applications I really had trouble with on Vista but they were well known and Vista made it entirely clear that it's unlikely the software would work.

One simple recommendation I would make is to go for 2GB of ram, I've found this to make a substantial amount of difference - my initial configuration for my work machine was just 1GB ram and although for the most part it worked ok, I did find Explorer particularly had a nasty tendency to crash once the machine had been up six to eight hours. It may have been something else entirely but I've found the 2GB Vista machines I've been using to be much smoother.

No real issues with Vista, (well a couple or so), and Office (and the excel 65,535 bug calculation :giggle: : )

Vista is ok but does seriously need a service pack, lets hope it isn't like sp1a for xp when it arrives lol

Like Johnmcl7 says, 2Gb does make Vista a bit smoother. Or more if you can afford it and the system accepts it .

Drivers for broadband modems, your in a catch22 with the provided disc sometimes, need to download the driver but no internet to download the driver, thats when you call pcnutta :giggle:

Just remember if you are using Office 2007 and sending documents to ppl with office 2000/2003/xp they need to install the compatability pack so they can open /edit/save/blah blah, from here:
office.microsoft.com/en-…spx

Now I must go and catch up on my procrastinating

...Or, the person with 2007 could save the document in 97-2003 format.

Thanks to all of you, that puts my mind at rest - even though I don't understand all the technical stuff! I'm just an arts based student, so I tend to write not crunch figers so i hope it will all be ok.
Basically, I need to make sure that Explorere doesnt keep crashing I guess!

Thanks gain, I really appreciate your time to answer!
