Found 4th May 2008
Just in the process of putting my old LP's onto disc with my new usb turntable. Have got my whole LP collection out of the loft and just smiling / cringing at some of the memories they bring back. Some titles are still quite credible, Smiths, Peter Gabirel, etc, but some just fall into the catagory "What were you thinking?".

However.... just wondered if anyone had any constructive suggestions on what to do with them when I've finished. Don't think I would get much on ebay, and they seem too good to bin. Anyone know if theres any money to be gained here? All suggestion welcome (not too rude please!) Niki

try your nearest record shop?! If you have one!

or melt them down and build a huge vinyl robot!

Hold on to them... Nothing quite like pulling out a vinyl and putting it on... classy.

Having said that... the only vinyl I own is Skepta - Duppy

youtube.com/wat…l0g

you can search online to see what albums could be valuable ... believe me some are ! so worth checking it out first

They do have a lot more class than cd's etc. Nice to see the music actually happening as it were

Yeah, when I have my own place I would to have a nice book collection & vinyl collection....

few of smiths albums worth £20 plus -

single hand in glove misprinted worth £400 plus
info from rrpg 2006

Donate them to meeee. I love vinyl. Don't have a massive collection by any means but I love listening to it and sometimes me and my friend use them to take samples and make hip hop beats. Obviously not asking for the rare valuable stuff but if you have a bunch of stuff left over.... Is it largely any type of genre?

Couldn't bear to throw out my vinyl ........a lot of teenage memories are held in those old LPs.Whilst I don't play 'em much,it would be too much of a wrench to get rid.

They sit in the loft!:-(

Where would I do this? Do you have a website / place you could recommend?

Thanks for all your suggestions and comments. Yes I am lothe to part with them, but they have not been played since I left home for University. As for going to a local record shop, yes there is one, but I'm not sure if they buy LP's. Will have to investigate and invest in a paper bag to wear over my had for the 5 star 12" I seemed to have bought!:whistling:

OP is this collection just mainstream POP or do you have any 60'3 early 70's' and /or Punk mixed up in it ?

To get a general idea of there worth you would need to compile some sort of list. You will also need to grade the records and the sleeves. In general nowadays only records with sleeves in excellent to mint condition are worth anything but there are exceptions.

A reputable record dealer wont rip you off but they are few and far between nowadays. You will also get more if you actually know what you have so to speak.

If you want any help with this let me know. I've valued and sold record collections before so have experience. Just to be completely above board I am NOT interested in buying any.

Regards.

Cheers. Will start putting a list together. No, ther is none of the stuff you mentioned. I am a late 70's and 80's girl I'm afraid. Doubt I will find a diamond amonst my lot, but some spare cash would really help right now (just come to the end of my fixed rate mortgage!) Thanks Niki

Haha, big up. Tune!

Anyone know of a site where you can get free valuations?

I know that they would only be rough guides as depends on condition and edition etc but as they say - every little helps...

Try the ]Rare Record Price Guide.

Though I can tell you now, unless you've an exceptionally rare record, you won't get much at all for any record that isn't in "Mint" condition. And by "Mint" we (speaking on behalf of any genuine, honest record collectors) mean 'new' and 'unused'. ("Near Mint" is worth something too..)
