So in plain English - can I cancel with no penalty? Yes or no?

Are you able to cancel your vodaphone contract because of thise change? I only ask as the unlimited internet was one of the main reasons I had for going with a vodaphone contract

i would cancel this, the internet is the main reason i am paying £40/month. Hope we can, already got out of my Orange last year, getting outta this will be a bonus

I was kinda tied to Vodafone as my work sim is with them and I wanted an HTC Magic. Vodafone were the only ones who offered them at the time. Anyone know how to unlock them ?!

lets keep an eye on this

i'm on the £40 a month VF too with a hd2 and was just about to be using a lot of data over the summer. I hope i can cancel as i was seriously considering o2 at the time.

Mine isn,t locked, have you checked it by putting in another sim card?

It's disappointing Vodafone seem intent on being the worst UK network for smartphones, they're generally fine for me but I'm not having my N900 crippled with a hard limit nor am I paying more for it either. Thankfully my contract is up in July so I may try an O2 sim-only month contract to try them out first.

Seems like a good way of walking away from a contract by going over one month and getting a charge. I'll be sure to tell a friend of mine who took out a 24 month iphone contract 2 months ago!

The Iphone contract isn't changing - they're on a different data plan, it's a 1GB limit with £5 per 500MB afterwards, this change only affects non-Iphone users.

John

Surely they can't change your contract, and you can hold them too this.

facebook.com/pag…=ts

fb group

apparently people have calld and they wont cancel contracts unless you can prove you use over 500mb monthly and it will cost you more than 10% of your bill, obviously, the problem is theyve changed the contract i signed up which isnt right, i dont use 500mb so it doesnt affect me but it could possibly cost me more in the future as i now have an iphone so i feel it is a change that will affect me as i might go over 500mb one month and my internet will cost me an extra fiver when i signed up for unlimted and it shouldnt cost me more

i doubt theyll cancel contracts but as you know, if enough people make some noise on facebook then no doubt theyll start taking notice that customers arnt happy

I think it is because they are trying to state the 'unlimited' is not included in the written terms of the contract...thus I'd argue implied oral terms, that is one of the reasons you took it.
But again I think if you have a new contract they should perhaps sever the contract, but not let you keep the phone for example...or if you have been in contract for a while you have to been seen to at least get in the region of 500mb before in a month.

I've been in my contract for an N900 for 3 months, I've only just found out where to download developer apps (it isn't obvious) and so my usage has started to ramp up, the reason I went for the N900 internet tablet is because I wanted 'unlimited' internet, if they think I'll let them change my T&C's without my exercising my right to cancel they've another thing coming...

+ Their network is about as reliable as two tin cans held together with string...

I'm gonna tell my friends to cancel.

None I've seen, I think it's now a case of waiting for Vodafone to officially announce the change which should be in a few days.

John

Anyone have any luck trying to get out of contract, found out I am on 700mb just now so it will affect me. Tried to argue my point but they are having none of it.

Its not really a change of contract though, they have defined what is fair usage and after speaking with OFCOM they agree its a case of definition not change and arguing what is fair usage is a useless argument, as we have seen with ISPs etc.

I just spoke to them and they told me to send them an email through their website which I have done.

I regularly go over 500mb (over 1tb most months) and I am only ever charged £5 so this will definitely effect me.

Let’s see what they say. I can’t see them getting out of it as it is in their own T’s & C’s.

lol, must be on 24/7 :-D

I listen to the radio on the train for 2 hours per day while browsing.

That alone is about 40-50mb per day.

Add downloading of apps, emails + facebook and 1tb is not that high.

do the sums for me, I still can't add that up to 1Tb

I do that on my PC and then some and still its a push to get up to 120+Gb.............

20 * 50 =800 (work days only)

200 for weekend browsing + apps.

I think he meant 1GB now way can you consume 1TB never!!!!!

In order to use 1TB you need to consume 33GB of data daily........

Sorry, obviously 1 gb. I think 1tb would be impossible in a month on mobile networks.

but beware - whilst it states you are able to cancel, it doesn mention that you may be liable for the remainder of your contract.

I have seen a few folk cancelling and having to give up their handset also
