Want to Watch films from my Laptop thru the television but not working!

Ok so, i want to watch forgien avi films with SRT subtitle files with the KMPlayer thru the Tv and i bought a 7 pin s-video out plug adaptor this is only a short plug with a female plug, so i've pluged in a double ended male cable in to the female and the other into the yellow (video) plug into the televisions AV plug; Philips widescreen (not a flat screen) TV. Change the channel to av. Not working. I thought this would work. Any ideas why it would not.

The laptop doesn't know that you have plugged in the s-video connection as it's more basic than some of the other outputs, you need to tell it that you have connected the TV. This depends on what laptop you are using, there's usually an option somewhere that you enable to say the TV is attached. What model of laptop do you have and what graphics card does it use?

I have much the same prob using a SVGA 15 pin cable
Set tv to pc but get no picture or sound
using laptop (Dell Vostro 1510 )
    any advice to try ???

You will have a Function Key to press with one of the "F" Keys to enable monitor. The Function key is usually blue and at the left of the space bar labelled Fn. Press this and one of the keys at the top that relates to monitor - might have a pciture of a monitor or say LCD, etc.
Or use your graphics card properties to enable monitor out our dual display.
    Hope that helps.

ok reddwarf, you have just about solved it, I now have it on tv screen but it is only taking up about 2/3rds of my 37" screen is the best I can get ?????

You will probably need to adjust the resolution of your display via the graphic card properties.

Nope, standard onboard cards are fine - which graphics card do you have in your machine? From what I remember the 6400 could come with an Intel card or an optional ATI dedicated graphics card.

You may have to go into the properties of the graphics card and make sure it's displaying to an external monitor - such as extended desktop or dual display. This needs to be done once all the cables are plugged in, THEN switch on your laptop and monitor/tv.
