wanted new PC buying advice

I should like to replace my very slow Dell Dimension 8300 which has inadequate memory and seems to be getting slower and slower. The tech guy who came round to look at it suggested upgrading the memory but because is it more than 6 years old, I am thinking about a replacement.
These two I have found after doing some research which are well reviewed are

NOVATECH Ricochet ATI Pro- Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 4GB 800Mhz 500gb HDD HD4850 512Mb Graphics DVDRW (local branch near here)

Acer Aspire M3802 Desktop PC, Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, GMA X4500 up to 1024MB, Windows 7 Home Premium

Thanks for any help and all advice is much appreciated.

The acer has a better spec, but the first has it's own graphics card, so that would be a good option.

This Dell one looks quite good…md-

Would you look to sell your old one ?

I am looking for an old dell to use as a proxy server :whistling:

The first thing to decide is whether you need a good graphics card or not, as a mid-range card like the Radeon 4850 can add another 30-40W to the power consumption, which you obviously don't want if you're not going to use it. Graphics cards are useful for gaming, photoshop, [email protected] and I believe video encoding/transcoding.

The Intel X4500 is the slowest graphics chip on the market, but adequate for showing the sparkly window effects in Windows 7 and other basic uses.

Thanks for your reply. I shall probably keep the old one for storage purposes so it is unlikely I shall be selling it - sorry.
