There are loads of good petrol mowers reduced in Argos, give them a try:thumbsup:

got a leaflet from argos yesterday petrol strimmer & lawnmover down to about £150 on offer

I have a piece of land I bought that is large enough for a block of four small flats. The land is rough and I have left it unbuilt on as I got caught up with other projects.

Budget strimmers don't work for large areas - as you spend the majority of the time trying to advance the string which jams. Thicker string works far better - but smashes the plastic protector at the cut head to bits in a couple of days. I have been told 'brush cutters' are a good bet - and use a rotating disk that looks like a circular saw.

However, to cut the central areas of the grass was quite easy - even when it has the long yellow straw like grass that reaches your thighs - and thick heavy green grass that feels like a cushion beneath.

I got a petrol hover mower, and if you are strong enough to carry to mower for the first 2m x 2m area to get it started - then it becomes fairly easy to work out from that area.

I got it from a shop in Paisley (Scotland) called Guthrie Plus, who sold new stuff in damaged boxes. Its in my lock up which is not here - but if you want I can get the model number for you - and its worked for over 5 years.

Is this a waste of money though? Should I go for a better quality engine?

Are homebase having a bank holiday sale tomorrow?

Check out their website. You should be able to get free delivery.

i was in b&q last week and they had 1 for £90

Agree petrol is much more useful & robust; Also with petrol you can cut damp grass

I was just about to buy a new one petrol mower so I done some research, but ended up getting the part for my old one which is 19 years old and it is now fine.

From what I can see the £90-100 are less robustly constructed, thin metal or plastic.

Honda do one called an HRG 415, I found it for about £228 inc del from Garden Lines
