do you want film or digital SLR? not clear

Hi, I have a Canon EOS IX7 APS SLR here: betterphoto.com/rev…982
camera in as new condition with a 22-55mm canon ultrasonic lens , skylight filter and case with original instruction manual which I would let go for £75.00 inclusive of delivery. It has served me well over the years, taken some fantastic pics and the films are cheap! see here: directfoto.co.uk/sho…spx

I am not sure what i need to be honest. Just need something that is going to take really good photos. Something that accepts a memory card etc

Am guessing i need a digital slr?

If you want to take pictures of products as well as the SLR I would use:

a) A tripod (full height or maybe just table top) to ensure no camera shake.

b) A shutter cable (do they still make them?) so you can take a picture without even touching the camera.

c) Better photo lighting rather than a flash.

d) If you want really close up then ensure your camera can take macro photographs.

The quality of the picture is probably mostly down to the lens.

The cheaper the camera the worse the lens.

Makes like Nikon/Canon will have quality lenses.

The lens quality is probably more important than the number of pixels.

I have got a digital camera samsung - 10megapixel but i just cant seem to take nice photos. The lighting isnt brilliant in my home either. But i got told if i get an slr i should be able to get good clear photos in detail. The products i have are very detailed, beaded etc. So the closer i get a shot, the better.

That is a bit like saying to an artist "if you buy a better paint brush you will paint better pictures"

So not quite true. You do need some photographic skill !

The good thing about an SLR is that you look THROUGH the lens to take the picture so you take EXACTLY what is shown.

Cameras with small viewfinders are not great as the viewfinder does not quite line up with the lens (they are at different angles) so you are not always taking what you "see".

An SLR SHOULD help you take better pictures, but I think the lighting will also be important. A single "flash" can be too harsh and give shadows.

May be worth you buying a photography book or two.

How about this: Digital SLR cameras and photography for dummies

I think all digital SLR cameras will have memory card slot (they may have built in memory but will also have the ability to slot in a memory card)

Rather than lock for over bumping I've moved this to Misc so you continue your conversation
But this means no trades can take place either I'm afraid
