Wanted to improve my English

My English isn't that great. I'm not proud of it, but it's an experience of life where one could wish they could go back to school and become a nerd. lol

What ways could I improve my English, i.e grammar etc etc
I never used to read books but now I want to, but I find it difficult to be hooked on to books; I'm not even sure what I like to read.

Some one help me LOL (PS this isn't a joke!)

I'd advise non-fiction books, that way you will improve your English and actually learn interesting stuff along the way, thus killing two birds with one stone! (Sorry RSPB!)

I remember my English teacher saying read, read, read, it doesn't really matter what you read.

Good advice as it turned out.

Didn't do me any harm.

100% agree - doesnt matter what you read - newspapers comics

done a stint as teaching assistant and had a few kids who had 'reading & writing problems'

i would have them reading sports pages - their fave team - learnt so much - recognition - also little maths geniuses working out how many points needed to win their league - etc -

whatever your interests are - go library - free!! - soo many things online as well

good luck:thumbsup:

read about what you are interested in...i mostly read auto bio stuff about musicians and football players

and my oh reads about pyschology and criminals cos thats what interests her the most....

jst take your daily life and think i watch or do this so THIS book might interest me

LIBRARY ARE *********** once fined me on a children's book I never heard off nor I rented books out just used it as a emergency Internet access. Never paid it but I know the fines about £15 or something grr

Try charity shops for books, you can find recent best sellers in great condition for around 1.50 which are normally 15 or 20 quid in somewhere like smiths. Once you've read it you can throw it back in the charity shop, and your doing your bit for charity too!

I have that collection I think I'm more into Non-Fiction Books.

Why dont you start by reading magazine articles then work your way up to short books and stuff?

I read alot of magazines and newspapers yet they don't help I think i need to understand different styles of writing and how people use it efficiently etc...

read stuff you're interested in- action, romance, sci- fi etc. once you find a book you like you'll not be able to put it down. i also think reading newspapers helps as well as keeping you up to date. also doing crosswords helps with words you don't understand meaning of- though always have dictionary handy as it helps to explain words better :-D

btw if you like action, comedy, autobiography's i could send you a book f o c to get you going
