Found 4th Jan 2016
2 weeks ago one of my sisters TV units that has the chrome & black glass exploded & yes exploded is the word she & her husband used.
He was watching the TV & she was in the kitchen when bang went the TV unit.
Today I've noticed on facebook people posting photos complain that this has also happened to them & others comment that it has also happened to them or someone they know.

Has any HUKD members had this happen to them ?

No............
Just looking to see if this is happening all the time as my sisters TV cracked after the unit gave way.
i noticed when looking for myslef once, there are a lot of cheap units around and they have weight limits that can get ignored. vibrations from tv speakers etc, sky boxes hard drives etc can make things worse over time. the weight limits are a common sense problem but not well displayed enough by manufacturers i dont think.
Ok. So where did you buy it from ?? I have a coffee table like this, had it like 4 years now and it's fine, thank God. Bought mine from Asda

knew i had seem something on here - seems it was outdoor tables when heated retaining heat and cracking

It will hamper your mobility somewhat I should imagine, depending on the size of pine obviously! :-)
Toughened glass - one tiny spot and the whole lot goes ... A kitchen worktop saver went, I think it just got knocked on one edge, and with the backing preventing total disintegration, it was crackling away - without the backing, it would probably have been an "explosion".

The glass has stressed layers, and is designed to shatter into small pieces, rather than crack into large shards

Yup this... which is why you can't engrave toughened glass.
She was not slow in calling the press lol.
A mail online story probably scraped from here and Facebook

They have agencies who are trawling the web to submit stories from various sources
Weakest point of toughened glass is the edges.
