    WARNING! Gumtree and Scammers

I just listed 2 items to sell via Gumtree.

1 is a Sony bridge camera and the other a Sky+ box.

Within 1 hour I had received 2 clearly scam emails and some crap about having a paypal account and how they would just throw in an extra £20 or £40 for postage e.c.t.

This is the rubbish they replied with

    1) Hi, the price is very reasonable i will add additional £20 for delivery charges via royal mail 1st class, hope you use Pay Pal as am doing at the moment! send me a Pay Pal invoice to:
******@yahoo.co.uk or you let me have your name and Pay Pal registered email address to enable me remit the money now.

Take note of this email address "i*******@yahoo.co.uk !"

    and

    2) "Thanks for your response and i appreciate the fact that you are
willing to sell the item to me but right i may not come over because
of my job, am still at work right now and get home late night 11pm
please bear with me, i work at airport at Newcastle and I have made
promise about this item. I acknowledge your asking price for the item
and i ready to make quick payment to you through pay-pal right now
which will include an add additional fee of £40 postage fee via
royal-mail registered. Kindly send me a pay pal payment request to
*****@blumail.org with total fee and in-case you don't have a
pay-pal account you can just quickly set-up one. so that i can
complete payment this evening and you can have the item posted
    tomorrow morning.

My phone number to call me +***********!"

Take note of this email address to: ******@blumail.org

The grammar in this 1 is outstanding.

So please take not of these 2 email addresses and mobile number

I hate these total scum bags..

Hope this helps somebody avoid these muppets.

I think it`s against T&Cs on here to post e-mail addresses and numbers. The filters might be automatically blocking them.

i got one of them telling me to contact there lawyer as i had a healthy inheritance from millionaires in south africa

Got loaads from my eBay items. Worked for them first time. Scammed me an ipod

The idea of Gumtree is that you browse your local one and deal with people face to face. Paypal and posting things is out of the question if you're buying - too risky.

The other old chestnut for those new to scams. Is when they pay by paypal and ask to collect... DONT! As you have no proof of postage and they will win a paypal claim, that one is mainly for ebay though.

As mentioned, Gumtree = Meet face to face, buyer looks at goods, cash is exchanged, everyones happy.
I remember selling something for about £50 and got a scam e-mail saying they will pay £70 for the item plus £30 for delivery to their son's house in Nigeria. How can anyone fall for stuff like that?

Also be very careful when meeting face to face! You get scammers who will mug you etc face to face as well! Wasn't there a story about a car or something last year or before.

Yup, some guy went to buy a car worth several thousands so they knew there was a good chance he had the money on him and they robbed him of his money and took the car.

I think they met on an old industrial park, or some other secluded spot. Did he not wonder why they were meeting in such an obsure place?
So good point if you are meeting about buying a high valued item do it in a place with lots of cameras and lots of people a supermarket car park for example.
