Pretty sure the £46 limit is for items sent 1st class recorded. Anything more than that must be sent Special Delivery.

Though im not sure if same applies for items sent abroad...
Nothing wrong with the Italian postage service. Never send anything abroad.. Likely to go "missing".. The problem is not the postage system but the recipient..

Worse thing you could have done is send anything of value to Italy. Their postal system is atrocious and very unreliable.

You're
Who sends high value items anywhere without knowing the risk or recompense in the event of loss?

Clearly it's the post office's fault for not doing the research you should have done yourself.
Shame you didn't do any research on sending to Italy. It's one place a lot of sellers won't send to.

Hope you manage to something out.

They asked whats the value, I said £350, so paid extra to insure it too that. At no point did they say, mobiles phones are only covered up to £46.

ps Royal Mail also reducing the £46 cover for UK parcels to £20 from 1st April 2013 - they are a ******* joke

Yea I spotted that. Wasn't gonna screw about trying to find a better pic with the right spelling though, not on my phone at least.
I wonder why they underlined Ron.

apparently some thieves pretended to send phones abroad then claim off royal mail or something!!
Italy has been the 'new Nigeria' for eBay fraud for the past 2+ years.
Lots of ebayers refuse to send there.

If you have mobile phone insurance maybe you can claim but I don't know what you'd say!

I wouldn't know

I would, and the reason i posted this lol

I keep getting letters for someone who hasn't lived here for 10 years+

It goes back even further, I was selling m/ cycle visors for a while all over Europe and the one place they kept getting lost was Italy. I just gave up sending abroad after that, never worth it.

an easy mistake to make, I don't send expensive things abroad but I would assume if I paid extra for insurance I would be covered. It's not really the Post Offices fault but I would be pretty mad too that they asked the value, charged you extra and didn't mention mobiles being excluded, they can't have many people in sending £350+ parcels to Italy every day. Unfortunately it's in black and white on the website. Maybe give CS a ring, though I highly doubt they will do anything :-(

It is fraud, but how on earth do they check IMEI usage? you make it sound like mobile networks are all sat round twiddling pens and get lots of spare time to provide IMEI specific usage to companies for their customers, also, wouldn't that be invasion of privacy/data protection violation anyway?

Now I truly believe karma exists

Op buys stolen mobiles btw
I wonder how the likes of Zoverstocks etc will be affected? I know they can negotiate reduced postal costs, but they work on a very small profit margin
Not sure if you guys knew this but special delivery doesnt protect mobile phones either

he raises a valid point dyl
Shouldnt have told them it was a phone? Are other things covered up to that value? You could argue it was anything.. Gold, jewellery, cash? How can they prove it.

How do they know you sent a mobile? I would not normally suggest lying but that is atrocious.
Why not say you sent an ipad mini? Or a watch? Etc.
It has gone missing, how can they verify the contents? :-)

Oh dilly that is a silly suggestion. These insurers are tight fisted gits and will fully investigate all claims and look for way to avoid paying. What do you think will happen when they discover that the phone went missing before it was insured. As far as I am aware this sort of insurance isn't retrospective.
