Was I within my rights not to pay ?

I was in a large JD sports store recently and I sprayed some crep protect on my trainers . Genuinely thought it was a tester or something by the way it was displayed by the sofas . Staff kicked off at me and harassed me into paying and that they would get security and the police involved blah blah blah ?
Ended up paying in the end as I was in a rush somewhere

I would say yes you should pay for it. If you went into a Supermarket and had a drink from a bottle of coke you would then be expected to pay for it. The fact that you thought it was a tester is not their fault.

However, quite surprising they kicked up that much of a fuss over such a trivial thing. Saying that it is a bit of a chavvy shop.

I wouldn't walk into a pub/bar and see a pint on the side and assume it's a tester as it's displayed in a certain way.

Generally I'd expect a tester to be marked as such, anything else is either part of a display or is offered for sale.

I can see a quick spray on 10% as a tester.. but if you did both trainers or one fully before they noticed then you really used the product..
I'd also say if it didn't have a tester sticker on it then it's not a tester..

Doubt they would have a tester for trainer protector - what would it demonstrate??

They probably couldn't have done much about it if you had politely refused to pay, other than ban you. The police would have been unamused with the shop in question if they had called them in on this one, to say the least.

I'd have just walked off, but then again, that's irrelevant cause I wouldn't be stupid enough to spray my trainers with something that's in a shop.

How about eating the Mars Bars in your local Tesco? Thought they were a tester bar because of the way they were displayed?? What a load of crap. Stop whining. What would you possibly be testing? It's not like testing a perfume. Once you've sprayed it on your trainers, they're protected...... [word deleted]

Lesson learnt that's the last 10£ Chavy JD ever get unless it a scorcher of a deal which is unlikely

Bottom line is if you want it pay for it like everyone else, or go back to school for some lessons in how to behave like an adult in a shop.

I like to go to tesco and just take half of the 50% extra free

have to sneak it out mind you but it's legal right

yes it was wrong, however when threatened with police me,personally would have said ok,just to push the envelope.did the spray work though?

This has got to be a wind up surely?!

jd is full of tramps anyway starting with the store staff , anyone who pays stupid amounts of money for trainers made of polymers that turn from white to a mottled grey/pink in the box is asking for it, bought two pairs once in a sale opened the boxes a few months later they had turned a mottled pinky grey , totally unworn still tied together , got a full refund for them , and thats why your trainers never stay white , because the chemicals change colour so they look dirty , they were nike btw

If it was a singular bottle near the sofas and the lid was already off you could have perhaps understood it.

I'd have mentioned the fact it was out of place, to get your employees in order. If that happened to be on the floor and you tripped, it woudn't be your fault.
