Im currently living in a flat and my water provider is South Staffordshire Waters, I pay just under £300 for a 2 bedroom flat, my parents who dont live far from me own a house with 4 bedrooms but they pay just under £200 anyone know why that is? Both places do not use meter's for water rates?

get a water meter asap

Most water rates are based on the old rateable value of a property
older properties tend to have lower rateable values
modern properties higher rateable values
apart from installing a water meter I don't think there is anything you can do about it
I live in a 1930's small 2 bed bungalow - and pay more than you in water rates - I guess your parents are just lucky

Strict advise NOT to get a Water meter!!
If you dont have one, you cant be forced into getting one. But if you have one, you cannot get it out.
My quarterly bill has DOUBLED in the same property by installing a Water Meter & I am sure we dont consume much.

You can request to have a water meter removed in the first 12 months of having it installed unless it was already there when you moved in

Get the water company to check the meter is just for your house and not your next door neighbours water too..
( as seen on watchdog a few weeks back! )

Defo get them to check if you don't use loads of water...
on watchdog the meter was fitted to a shared water main in error so one person was paying for the use of three houses

Or check yourself.
Turn your water off and watch the meter to see if it clocks up

Im with South Staffs Water - 1 bed fat
water meter fitted costs me £16 a month

Those Idi*ots dont even listen. I called them, but they scared the sh*t out of me by telling me off that if there is nothing wrong, you will have to pay the visiting & labour charges of upto 200£

I will definitely check this way by closing the taps & checking.
Thanks a lot mate & thanks OP for bringing up this issue.

Make a note of the meter reading on a day when your out at work or away from the house for a while and check it again when you get back after being out a while...
If it's gone up and you've not had washing machine or something on while you were out you know something is up!

Maybe if you rent its included, i usd to live in Hertfordshire UK and mine was paid within the rent there.

Now i live in Staffordshire and have meter

If there's only one or two of you then a meter is fairer IMO. I live alone (no mates, you see) in a 3 bed house and my water is about £14 pcm, though I'm not paying for anybody else's water like in Watchdog
