Website Hosting

Hi All,

I have played around building websites before but never hosted one of my sites on a pay monthly plan (Always used freebies like geocities or freewebs).

I want to put up a new website for a business plan I am in the middle of but want to create and advert free page for as little cost as piossible to start with.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

Hi Goss.Man

I deal in web hosting. I can provide you with some space etc. Depending on what you want etc will depend on what you want to pay but I'm fairly flexible. If you want to PM me what you're after etc I'll provide you with a quote.

Its probably best to say what the site will be used for and how much space you need, along with site functions that you might use.

I wouldn't recommend buying space from a reseller - you dont know what else they are using and you might find problems with bandwidth and CPU issues. Webspace is cheap enough not to take chances.

Have a look at www.34sp.com which offers an excellent speedy service - along with superb customer services. If you need more space, then have a look at www.liquidsix.co.uk

I personally wouldnt recommend 1and1 which you posted a link for. Users here have posted bad experiences with them. (Though others of course will tell you theyve had no problems!) The ones Ive mentioned Ive never seen any adverse comments on their services.

I am a recently started up company and at the moment my site is being developed but hosting is available. The url for it though is ]http//ww….uk .

I can offer:

Web Space 4000Mb (4GB)

Data Transfer 50000MB (50GB)

Subdomains 10

FTP accounts 5

e-mail forwarding 20

E-mail autoresponders 5

E-mail distrbution lists 5

Mailboxes 10

Various web tools including basic website builder

for £3.50 per month (total £42 per year) plus I'll throw in a free .uk domain name.

If you're interested PM me.

Hi Guv,

The site would be to advertise my business (Which is still in the planning stage). I am planning to go into business with some friends/colleagues as a new cabling solutions company.

The main function would most likely be information only e.g. services we offer, contact details, testimonials. I would like to implement some sort of input form so users can request an online quote by entering a few details (Would need to look up how to do this though).

Do these people offer search engine optimisation or is that something else I would need to buy? Must admit im not very clued up on this.

1&1 were just the first site to pop up when I did a quick search on google but thanks for the warning

Cheers

Many will give you free basic tools to submit your sites to search engines but charge you for more advanced site submission. Pricing depends on how aggressive you want your submissions to be etc.

Does anyone know anything about … Does anyone know anything about these?http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/windows-home/full-details/http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/starter-h.shtmlFasthosts offer 50% back via quidco too.

Fast Hosts are fairly expensive once you start adding extra things on you might want etc.

Heart Internet are very good. I've done hosting with them and had no problems.

So if I'm not allowed to tell you about my services then I'd say Heart Internet.

Thanks for the advice, Im a bit unsure about looking at yours simply because you arent really up and running yet.

Anyone else can suggest the best value for money hosting company? £3.50 per month seems about the average price for what I want.

I want to understand about how I get my site tuned for SEO though?

Cheers

Do 110mb really work aswell as others you pay for?

How would I get my domain name to show instead of the subdomain.110mb.com?

Again apologies this is pretty new to me.

to get your domain to be used.
log into your account, go into Account profile
enter domain name, then login to your domain account, change the nameservers to the 110mb ones. (NS1.110MB.COM & NS2.110MB.COM.)
then your done!

From what you have said, you wouldnt need much space. The only important part to consider is speed and uptime. Either of the ones I mentioned are very good. I would however recommend a UK host rather than a US one.

Contact forms are a doddle, nothing to worry about there.

SEO is pretty much down to you and worth reading a little into it.

Best methods:

Make sure you use the metatags in the headers properly.
Manually insert the site into the various search engines. Dont pay someone for something that is free!
Your rankings get improved if your site is linked from other decent sites and getting it out there is relatively easy to do. (eg forums that allow you to post your website. HUKD does - but in your membership details - not in the forum.)

Id recommend buying your domain from a different company than you host. This is purely because you can point it to your webhost and it can remain where it is if you wanted to change your webhost for whatever reason. (eg your host has too much downtime - or youve found something you want thats cheaper elsewhere.)
