website noticeboard package recommendations??? (Not a forum!)

I'm going to set something up for my lads football team, so the coach, other parents and maybe even the players (Under 11s) can use to communicate. Mostly just for info relating to fixtures ahead, meeting points, maps, directions, who's giving who a lift etc. So I want to protect the content with a login, but leave everything else open to text input by all who have access.

I had installed wordpress, but have a feeling this will be too advanced for some to use. Joomla definately is. I guess I'm looking for something similar to a facebook wall.

Any suggestions on what package would be most useful and user friendly for those requirements? (Domain was bought about 2 months ago with the clubs 4 letter acronym - and the first league game this weekend.... so need to pull my finger out!)

Ta Muchly

PS The club does have its own website (Its quite a big outfit with 2 teams for each age group and own ground with 4 pitches) - but this is intended purely for "our team"

Why not set up a blog with Blogger?

blogger.com/start

Free, easy to do, no web design skills required, people can add comments, and the site catalogues itself but putting update in date order (newest at the top).

This is free and I think can do all you want.

Here is one as an example

Or why not set up a facebook site for them

Here is one for a drame group as an example

That might be all thats needed, though I'd like it to be able to insert photos and map images. Need to look into it a bit more. Looks sufficient for general noticeboard info though.

You could try setting up a wiki - its free and you have complete control over who views and writes to it
pbworks.com/
BUT if wordpress is beyond them then a wiki is also likely to be a bit complicated....

Yeh, Wiki is defo too far.

The guestbook idea above is the nearest to whats required. Think facebook wall - but with the ability to insert html / images into the page /cell. Certainly needs a log in though (too many stalkers... plus its the teams initials so will be seen - and is simply mention as an info / advice sheet online.

At the moment, the coach sends stuff out by text... its normally a brief bit of info. But if this is used, parents can ask for and offer lifts to games etc, plus proper details of match location and times shown. Just dont want it to be complicated or they wont bother using it!

I just tested it and instered a image tag and a URL..... I now cant access it... and get the message:

"ERROR: We don't like spammers. You have been permanently banned from this guestbook!"

Maybe not then!

lol you can configure the spam settings in the settings file and remove the ban

Yeh I know that.... but need to be able to insert images and URLs. Can you do that? (I appreciate the reason they have stopped it for the demo!)

We already have an official site thats similar to that one. This is purely as a noticeboard for parents and no one else.
