    Wedding invitation help

    Hi there, getting married soon but I need some help, i'm after a way of putting down on the invitation in a kind way that instead of the typical gifts, I would prefer cash instead

    as there is nothing that I need, and the cash can go towards the venue etc.
    any ideas will be much appreciated..

    How about saying something like

    "no boxed gifts"

    & just hope they get the hint.

    Would 'show me the money' be a little insensitive.

    thought about that, but in a Jerry Maquire kinda tone!

    My friend has suggested to me to have a small wooden wishing well were people can just pop money into an envelope and can be anon you could put something on invites saying that you both have everything you need and that a wishing well will be at wedding so people can help make your future wishes come true!.... Then you can also keep wishing well as a small reminder of wedding too....Good luck xx

    No presents please, but there will be an entrance fee?

    We had this exact issue when we got married last month...

    In our invites and on the website we put this text ...
    (and we also hired a wishing well)

    Because at first we lived in sin
    We've got the sheets and a rubbish bin
    A gift from you would be swell
    But we'd prefer a donation to our Wishing Well !!

    We have everything we need after living together for a while,
    and only ask that you share our special day.
    However, if you wanted to make a monetary contribution, there will be a 'Wishing Well' at the reception.

    this idea is sounding better, but they my parents probably, think SIN!! wat have they been doing!!!

    So what do you get
    For the Bride and Groom
    Whose house has things
    In every room?

    When shopping for a present
    Please, don't be rash
    As the option is there
    to just give cash

    We hope that you don't find
    Our request to be funny
    But the decision is yours
    To buy a present, or just give money

    Now you have the choice
    Please do not fuss
    the most important thing of all
    Is that you come and celebrate with us!

    We've been together a few years now;
    We have pots and pans and linen and towels;
    We have glasses and toasters, really quite a few;
    So instead of more gifts, we suggest this to you;
    If it doesn't offend and it won't send you running;
    What we would really appreciate is quite simply money

    In a wedding invitation,
    You usually find some lists,
    For venues, menus and hotels,
    And also for the gifts

    But this one is unusual,
    It comes in a different way,
    As we're not asking for presents,
    But for something else today

    Now please don't think we're selfish,
    Or that this comes from greed,
    But we've lived together for a while,
    So there's not that much we need

    We would appreciate help though,
    To send us on our way,
    And allow us to have our honeymoon,
    In a land quite far away

    So now the point of all this rhyme,
    The thing that we would like,
    Isn't towels, toasters or microwaves,
    But pounds and pence alike

    And now you know the reason,
    Behind this cheeky accord,
    Please help to give us memories,
    Of a dream honeymoon abroad

    It worked out great for us... 99% of people brought a card to the wedding and dropped it in - we had great fun the next day opening them all

    Those are three that I usually suggest but it depends on what you're planning on spending the money on.

    planned on spending the money on some great hukd deals...

    nah only kidding, it will be used to pay for the venue, as a back up .... and contribute to honeymoon etc

    We got married last year and didn't want presents. However, it is kind of rude, bad etiquette if you prefer, to include requests for money or gift lists with the invitations. When people contacted us or our parents asking what to get us, we said we didn't really need anything, but if they insisted on getting us something we said we were saving up for a new tv/sofa/whatever, and if they wanted to contribute that would be great.

    To be honest I'd be a bit miffed if I was invited to a wedding and there was a poem asking me for money in the invitation!

    I see where your coming from, just want a polite way to ask, but it does seem cheeky.

    It is becoming popular for the bride and groom to ask for money or vouchers instead of gifts because almost everyone has lived together before the wedding so has everything.

    If you're thinking of using it to pay for the honeymoon, one of the travel agents (can't remember which) lets you set up a payment scheme, a bit like a gift list, where your guests can contribute to pay for your honeymoon. This works really well too as all they do is go in and quote your names or account number and pay as much or as little as they want.

    If you do this be prepared for some OEM gifts.
    Do you need a DVD writer or a new version of Windows?

    I dont think its rude as in invites people used to include a where to buy from wedding list asking for cash is just the same I'd like to thank people for poem ideas as we too are getting married and would love money towards our honeymoon...
