    Wedding on a cruise

    Hi all,
Ive just got engaged and we've decided we'd like to go on a cruise and get married on board by the captain.
does anyone have any experience of this?

    thanks very much!!

On a UK flagged vessel the Captain can no longer carry out legal wedding ceremonies. On vessels registered in other countries you will need to contact the cruise line directly. ]Click here for one link, note these are US based agencies so your marriage may not be legal back in the UK.
I have worked on UK registered cruise ships for many years and haven't seen a ceremony carried out by the Captain.
I personally got married on the isle of St.Lucia and it was a requirement that you were resident for at least 7 days before the ceremony. I think this applies to most Caribbean Islands.
The best thing is to contact the cruise companies and ask, below is a list
    Carnival Cuises
    P&O Cruises
    Princess Cruises
    Royal Caribbean
    Celebrity Cruises
Have a look at ]this article for more info.

have looked into this last year and were told that we couldnt get married on the boat, would have to come of the boat and adhere to the country's rules i.e be in the country at least 7 days.
dont quote me on this as i didnt look into it a lot but that was what i found

You will absolutely love the cruise. We went on our honeymoon, got a balcony suite and it was amazing. I've not heard of a wedding on board. But then you could always sail to a destination and get married at one of them. I went with virgin (carnival cruises) and they were fantastic

I cant wait to go again

My wife and I got married at sea on a Princess cruise ship in November 2007.
Yes, you can do this and get married by the captain.
This is definitely possible on Princess cruises, and ( I think ) P&O - they are sister companies.
No other cruise lines have legal permission to do this.
Your wedding arrangements are taken care of by a seperate company after you have booked your cruise.
You can be married on any sea day of most cruises, unless they are already fully booked - they only perform a maximum of 3 ceremonies per day.
It is best to choose a ship that has a chapel, otherwise it is a makeshift affair in the library or nightclub etc.
If you do this in Europe there are a lot of legalities and it really isn't worth the trouble- much better to do it the other side of the Atlantic. We were married whist sailing from Florida to the Caribbean, and this was under Bermudan Law which is legal in the UK.
The whole experience was great and I would highly recommend you doing it.
    Congratulations on your engagement !
