    Weight Gain After Smoking

    Advise please,
Now on my sixth week without the fags, ahh!!

    I am now 18st 13!
I would like to get to 17 stone before I go away (7weeks).
I went on a 6 mile bike ride last weekend and this morning I went on a 27 mile ride!
I am thinking of drinking a slimfast shake in the morning and one for dinner and have a proper meal for tea after a ride along a set route(10miles), do you think this should do it?
I am going to stick to this just like sticking off the fags!!

    Any tips??

lol, Miss it but dont want to die from it!

Basically, to lose weight, and this will work and it's simple, trust me I did it, just do this.

Workout for over 30 minutes, push yourself too, 3 times or more a week.
Eat 1800 calories if you are a man or 1400 if you are a women
Keep your carbs low, sugars low, fats low.
Proteins high, get decent amount of fibers
Decent water intake, 2 liters daily

    Simple, and it will work.

Eat proper food. For the amount of calories in a slimfast you can have a decent breakfast and lunch.

Well done for stopping smoking! I stopped 6 years ago (still think about it now and again) but certainly don't crave it any more, especially when you smell someone else who does smoke its awful! Its hard not to put weight on because you're probably nibbling all the time to take away the cravings. As long as you eat healthily and cut down on the snacking your weight will even out eventually. Its just hard at the beginning.

How about sit-ups, press-ups and running every day?

But you may have to push a bit harder if you want to lose 12kg in 7 weeks.

why would you starve your self all day do excercise and then sit down for a full meal?

you do realise you need food for energy and then you are gonna eat and let it all sit all night, undoing all your previous work?

try not to eat past 5-6pm and always excercise after food not before, with smaller, nutritional portions......roast chicken, salads, pasta, bananas, fruit etc

Not true, a very successful diet is the Caveman diet, which is hardly any food for the whole day and then at 6-8pm you eat the majority of your calories, mimicking a real life hunter.

Trouble is I start work between 5:30 and 06:30 every morning and most of the time dont get home until 18:30 if I wait for tea to be cooked 19:00 then let it settle it might be 19:45 till i get on the bike, I hate sitting at home after getting home from work without having shower straight away, The reason I wanted to go out on my bike then eat!

But this could well be my problem, I eat full meals every night then relax and off to bed by 10.

    So the plan for Monday,
    Breakfast a banana
Low Fat Lunch, (Thinking Chicken salad)
Tea is whatever is made for me!
    Then cycle it off!!

Cheers for all your input !

what im basically saying is limit the amount of food in the evening, as your less likely to work it off and itll no doubt sit on you til the morning.......eat a little more through the day.

small portions several times a day is how they do it in asia, cut out all the junk and have fruit for snacking, its hard but these little things with excercise can make the difference .........

its evening snaking where i put weight on easily these days and beer is a major factor, ive managed to lose nearly 3 stone with not much effort over last few months

Pretty sure that isn't 1800 calories, and your dinner does matter, as it really matters what is made for you.

You need more than a banana imo, I used to eat 25g of ANY cereal, so take your pick and have 25g of it. I used to have wheetabix or oats, I did just eat a banana but that was when my body was used to the drop in calories.

As long as it isn't over 2000, you are low of fats and sugars, and carbs are decent i.e. not white / potatoes etc. Then you are good to go.

one quick google shows you are talking crap..the caveman diet is about the types of food not when you eat it you foolish boy

bodybuilders are not healthy eaters anyway...anyone who even knows a bit about nutrition knows that, going to those extremes is not healthy and most of my BB mates acknowledge that

it is quite normal to put on weight when you give up smoking, hence why many go back on them, just eat healthily and try to exercise as much as poss, well done on giving up smoking and hopefully the body will adjust in time

Nice one Thanks, Checked out the link, Thats the body I have now just a little taller!

We are trying to lose weight at the moment and are doing ok so far. I am trying to eat fewer calories but not restrict my diet too much- ie. no slimfast shakes or whatever. I prefer to have a proper meal because I think it's more nutritious and also psychologically I don't feel like I'm on a diet all the time which gets depressing.

At the moment there is a lot of nice fruit around which is cheap- peaches, cherries, etc, so I try to eat lots of fruit if I get hungry. I also have a big salad for lunch, maybe with some white meat or tuna but often just with a bit of olive oil and nice vinegar. Usually I find salads boring so the key is to make it varied- rocket, pepper, avocado (calories I know but tasty and good for you), spinach, lambs lettuce, whatever. I also like chick peas and beans which are high in protein and they are filling but low in fat. Also it's easy and quick to prepare which is a help during the week.

Lean meat is the way forward for dinner really; I also sometimes eat swede instead of potato as it has fewer carbs (it's not quite as good but it tastes all right).

I am quite keen on Ryvita as they are only c.40 cals each and with a low cal topping they are a good option; I don't eat much bread these days and I think that has made a difference.

We have also cut down on drinking a lot and I think that has really helped too.

Good luck! I bet Exmouth is gorgeous early in the morning.

You've done your homework by the sounds of it, you'll succeed.

I like Exmouth in the morning, So many dogs(big dog fan), And Exeter to Exmouth is a really good road up and down up and down!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day..not everyone likes porridge but it is a really filling and slow burning energy food, it will keep you full till lunch. Don't think you have to deny yourself of nice food. Grilled bacon on wholemeal toast with a tin of tomatoes is very filling and healthy. If you like eggs ...2 boiled eggs sliced up between 4 ryvita is another option. A big bowl of fruit with a dollop of plain yoghurt is also a nice brekkie especially in warm weather. Lunch ..........jacket potato with beans or whatever takes your fancy as long as it's not smothered in butter.

Not everyone knows what is sensible though. It's about education, you could eat 2 snack size sausage rolls and think you haven't had much but it's probably as much fat, salt and calories as a normal sized Sunday lunch.

    excersise more eat less

The biggest weight gainer IMO is fruit juice, in one glass it's pretty much the same as a normal chocco bar, and for someone like my bro who will have 4-5 glasses a day of Apple Juice, that's near enough 1000 calories by itself.
