    Weight Loss - What now?

    I started a thread just after christmas saying i wanted to shed a bit of weight. I started at 186 lbs (13 St 6) and am now down to 164 lbs (11 St 10) in just over 4 months which is pretty much where i thought with hard work i could be. Problem is the main part i wanted gone was the slight beer belly still doesnt seem to be going anywhere. Im aware that I probably in all honesty havent really got that much more weight i can lose from here on in, but what can i do to get rid of this?

    Ive taken up cycling (Lands End to Joan O Groats trip coming up late summer) and am cycling maybe two or three times a week, 15-20 miles a time). Admittedly i have not been to the gym or anything yet as just wanted to concentrate mostly on the weight loss side of things first.

    Whats the best way from now to get rid of this last little bit on the stomach?

    What you should do now is change your workout program. Supplement your cardio work with weights, focusing on the core muscles. The 'beer belly' weight is usually the last to go so it's not surprising that you've still got a bit. Keep going, you've done well especially considering how many people give up.

    Well done thats a fantastic effort, i found that just by trying to remeber to hold my tummy in all the time helps, you will find after a few days that you do it automatically, It seems to help strengthen the tummy muscles xx

    yeah its gotten smaller from what it was at the start, but it seems now that all over apart from the belly everything else is about the way it needs to be. I was thinking that gym might need to be the final step.

    To be fair, ive not found it overly difficult. I havent really drastically changed what i eat or drink. Okay ive cut out biscuits, swapped beer on a Saturday night for vodka and diet coke or vodka and diet red bull but other than that its stayed the same, just in moderation. I just knew that the last part is going to be the hardest!

    yeah the old belly will take a while as it is just that fat deposits though.
    So as Furry: cardio, but with weights on core muscles...especially your back. If you get good core then you will stand upright properly without realising and it will make you appear to have 'less of a beer belly' but then further that by doing sit ups, crunches, and learn some breathing exercises too.
    A good one i found, is breathe out as much as you can whilst sitting upright or standing and then 'suck in' your belly, by pushing your diafram upwards, then hold for a few secs and release, then repeat. Just do it when you can.

    This will increase the muscle capacity in the diafram and in turn will lift higher into your ribs a little, thus creating your belly to go in wards!

    Its funny - I'm in a very similar position. Lost a bit of weight - though not as much as you, but the beer belly didn't really change at all!

    All th women where i work keep telling me to kickstart the last part of the weight loss with Hydrotherapy or whatever they call it now. Not too keen on that by the sounds of it!

    mate, as you had a beer gut it would of been a bigger accumulation of fat in that area than the rest of your body, as fat is taken evenly from the whole body when burning during exercise obvuiously the beer gut is gonna be the last thing to go, keep doing what youre doing and it will eventually get burnt off, well done btw

    thats pretty damn amazing, well done.
    the belly is the last to go.... i know some of my mates who grew beer bellies found that jogging helped get rid of it (dunno whats the difference between jogging and cycling but might be something to think about....)
    Other than that, just start with some weights and try and build up the muscles in that region.

    yeah have had a look around on the net to pick up just a basic home gym. Nothing overly spectacular. I just know im not really the going to the gym type. Whereas if there is one in the spare room, im more apt to use it

    yeah definitely. Plus gyms are so overpriced for what they actually are!

    It can sometimes be what feels like massive effort just to go to the gym.....

    First off Well done and congrats.
    And as has already been said, keep up your cardio, but suppliment in some resistance training.

    as for a home gym try looking on ebay, Gym equipment you can usually find a total bargain on there. Just change the search options to with 25 miles of your post code to begin with

    Never thought of trying there to be honest, will check it out when i get back from work:thumbsup:

    With regards to loosing that last bit of stomach, obviously ab exercises are a must as well as a lot of cardio. It's all up to how much your body reacts to exercise as everybody is different. For me I have to be careful as if I do too much cardio I will generally loose mass all around, which is annoying.
    If your looking at tone, then do lots of high reps with lighter weights. With summer coming it'll pay off. When the winter sets in you can bulk up and go to heavier weights and eat like a monster.

    It's also very important to do weights on your legs as this targets the lower reigon of your stomach being the last bit of fat most people can't get rid of.
    Again stating the obvious but diet is also important, so lay off the snacks. Nuts and seedy snacks are good. Pineapple is also good as it helps the breakdown of protein.

    Also if you are serious and motivated enough I would reccomend a gym membership over getting a home gym. Only you can really make that decision, as yes it is a waste of money if you don't go. I normally have difficulties getting to the gym as I seems like an effort, although when I'm there I perk up, afterwards I feel much much better for going. Then I can pig out guilt free!!

    bulking again mate , love it when i can eat and eat lol, getting hectic my schedule now as im now doing muay thai kick boxing once a week , that with gym karate and cardio means i rarely get a day off :w00t: after this bulk i gonna do a slower cut, i went bezerk last time and did about a 4week cut and lost a stone in that time and visibly lost a bit off me biceps which i have gained back and a bit more lately. its all a learning curve innit!!!

    Theres so many you can do and plus this will take up much less room in your house than one of those all in one gyms. The build quality of the home gyms are generally poor for anything under £300 and so you would be much better off investing your money in a simple adjustable bench and dumbbells.
