I don't go to a pub Spoons or otherwise to walk in ignore folk & order off …I don't go to a pub Spoons or otherwise to walk in ignore folk & order off an app.I go to drink eat & socialise with staff & strangers.I also don't enjoy being tracked by a "freakin" app.

I use the app so I have more time to socialise with my friends rather than having to walk up and wait at the bar. For us it has saved loads of time having to stand at the bar when I can just pop the food order in and wait for it to come to the table. Apple and Android pay are accepted so you don't even need to enter credit card details directly into the app.

The app only asks for an email address so yes they might know the history of all the food I have ordered but I don't really think they are tracking it all that much.

It would be nice if it was warm enough and you could have runny eggs if you requested them, when they did get it right I did think it was a good breakfast

Haven't eaten in Wetherspoons for ages. The clincher for me was when I was served "Macaroni Cheese" that was like that 49p packet/powdered stuff you get from supermarkets.

Not like you get to sample new beers at the bar then!?

Are you sure that's all the permissions? ..i'm somewhat dubious, but that would be great "if" it were true.

Yes if you are mainly wanting to drink the guest ales then not all of them are on the app and as you say you can't sample. But for ordering food the app is great and there is definitely no need to create a log-in just enter an email address for the receipts to be sent to.
"Sorry we don't have any scrambled eggs left; would you like a boiled egg instead" = true story from a 2019 WS visit, bro.
Good to know, appreciate your time & info

Or maybe the replacement option offered was fried egg? Same implication either way.

You can't make scrambled egg out of a fried egg or a boiled egg.

True, but more obviously: it simply indicates that WS didn't have any unprocessed / fresh eggs, and / or had kitchen staff that hadn't discovered the Youtube vid that shows how to convert fresh eggs into scrambled eggs.

haha did you honestly think they would be using fresh eggs?

No, but in my deluded innocence I kinda assumed that a pro kitchen may at least have some semi-fresh eggs kicking about for emergencies, like for throwing at annoying customers.

Your the sort of person I would ignore, I go to get drunk and not be bothered by people needing friends...

who said anything about friends?
who said anything beyond polite acknowledgement of folk within your immediate radius at the bar, & maybe asking what is good out of the constantly changing beers.
I don't go to get drunk because i'm not that vacuous, just to have a few beers ones that taste good, & spoons have a fast turnaround.

Being polite at a bar can often help get you served that bit faster too.

Hate to be your mums kid, must be such a disappointment

I'm ok with spoons food (generally) but the amount of pre-prep bought in is crazy, eggs pre-poached (moulded shape & heated up so "hopefully" it will be runny) & therefore other similar stuff you never thought of.
I do miss the banana split, fresh fruit, ..not in a bag.

it obviously works for this very successful catering operation.

Yup, it certainly does, I'm not adverse to buying a 3 kg bag of chopped onion at the wholesaler myself on the odd occasion, however it means you get a rubbish "sharp" tasting cut cut, rather than ensuring its cut in a manner that also releases a less sharp sweetness.

It was interesting to learn how the poached eggs were done for my breakfast, & so often messed up, ..easier to talk through with manager to resolve too so we both win in terms of speed & reduced waste, as someone who sous vides them at home & stores em for a few days its a great insight into commercial food well done (eggs are delicate).

Big fan of spoons, I wish we'd had it around when I was a kid, I could have learnt a lot. (pub environs still had "that" stigma)

I like using the app cause I never no who at the bar waiting to be serve or who at the bar just drinking, means I can quickly look for table without worrying I am gonna lose it
