after a certain amount of time your card would be returned / eaten by the ATM

Maybe you should phone your bank?

Mate, find your details, then post back here

im onto the bank but answer machine and then choices 1 to 9

Well no one can use it unless they know your PIN? Unless the card was still inside the machine? then I'm not sure

Get it cancelled with your bank ASAP, ring them up and report it lost.

Really? This should have happened by now . . . ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I didn't think you needed to find your details, just ring up and let them find your details

    Bet you're panicking though hun

yesterday i saw someone walk off without their cash! by the time i got to the machine, it had eaten the money though

not in the best of humours as i know its my own fault i dont need it rubbing in

I'm not rubbing it in, I've left £50 and walked off as I was in hurry, totally gutted, some git had a lucky find. We all have our moments.

Hope you get it sorted hun, is there a lot of money in the account?

i have already cried my eyes out o/h just got paid and wanted a balance kids bored of waiting and moaning combined with me rushing caused chaos .bank cards in his name they have allowed me to cancel but wont tell me the balance or reissue a new card so will have to face the music when he gets in as this is the bill account

I'm not really sure how the bank will view it, as the card wasn't lost or stolen as such, although if it's been used it was without your consent (obv). God what a nightmare for you.:(

ohhh hope its ok... hopefully it will time out and either spit your card out or swallow it. fingers crossed.

awww hope everything is ok but i doubt it's been used so try not to worry

what you crying your eyes out for?

lol just find a statement. ring the bank. tell them that you left your card in the machine could they please cancel.

theyll send you out new cards.

in the meantime you can take any form of statement with you, and your drivers licence/passport/birth certificate, in the bank, and get cash out whenever!!

It will have either taken the card back into the machine which is probably likely and even if it hasn't anybody finding it in the machine would have to know your pin number which they would not have.

Do you know what's worse than leaving your bank card in the ATM?

Wasting 15 minutes posting about it on HUKD.

Seriously - phone your bank. Look them up on the web - they'll be a number for lost cards. They'll sort you out, but you NEED TO RING THEM!!!!

As in cancel the card? Surely that's just the best thing to do if you're not sure of anything? Worst case is they send you out another one.

It's okay, some people seem to think it's perfectly fine (kapows) to leave your card in a machine. (about the crying)
People get paid monthly. Which means if it's full time work there is roughly or possibly in excess of £1000 in the account (thats just with the wages).

Most accounts allow you to take out £300 + in one transaction.

I get upset when I lose £20. I don't have a family to feed or to pay bills. £300 is a big blow..

    It's already cancelled.

    Hi
Hopefully the atm swallowed your card and the card has been blocked now. Please don't worry and please update us later:thumbsup:

oh ok - I didn't get that from the post. In which case OP, don't sweat it. Your OH will just be happy enough that you acted fast in getting it cancelled. A few days inconvenience of not having a card is better than not having any money to use it with.

Likely the atm took the card back in,as it's all chip & pin now, rarely have it sign in a shop these days.

You should get online banking set up for future and then you can check instantly online for anything like this,I wouldn't tell him if you think he go mad and it go unoticed if someone as took the card and made a purchase online etc. A lot of websites will only send goods to billing address, specially for 1st orders and if someone did take the card they wouldn't likely know the billing address in 1st place to be able to get goods sent to another address.

She can't request a new card.

Did you not get it refunded? If someone stole it, they'll surely be on CCTV. People have been arrested for taking money from cash machines before.

OP I wouldn't worry, chances are no damage will have been done. Even if someone has managed to pinch the card, the bank will probably refund you for any fraudulent use.

Don't forget you can still withdraw money from inside the bank and like other people have said, register for online banking. I haven't used a cash machine for years.

dont worry when your OH comes just call the bank and they will send your new card and it will be with you in a couple of days.

OP is more worried that she left the card active in the machine and some scally has stepped behind her and thought, wow it's my birthday whilst clicking withdraw cash. Doesn't matter so much if someone's come along and taken the card so much as it's already cancelled.

    Any update on this sweetie?

I do hope the card was swallowed by the machine and everything is fine for you x x

Yeh my partner still wouldn't even notice,he's got a bank account ,plus we got a joint one and he no idea,he couldn't even log into online banking thats how much he leaves everything to me.
My partner would then think he lost the card if I was to keep quiet about it as I'm more respnsible than him,but then I would tell him anyway and he wouldn't be going mad at me.

the machine will swallow it if its left in the slot for too long and if its sitting in the slot half in as it does when you are taking it out and someone pushed it back in it also swallows it so best to let the OH know and get them to cancel the card asap incase someone nicked it

dude they cant use the card without the pin.

it takes two minutes to ring the bank

the card will come out, or it will ask for the pin again. it wont stay in there for other people to take cash out long enough.

im sure the OP mentioned the transaction she made was completed.

My OH did this ages ago, the machine just swallowed the card and we had to go into the bank to get it as it was attached to one of the banks.

If there was a queue for the machine, the person that took it may have just collected off your card and gone, then someone else might have used their card after. The CCTV will tell all I suppose. At least it was only £50 hun, and maybe the bank will reimburse you.

Hope you get it sorted xx
