What are my rights to return a product?

Ok, I bought a cable for my car from Renault. The part had to be ordered in from Renault in France and I had to pay upfront. Got the cable and its not the right one. They said when I ordered it that it couldn't be returned, is that right? Its still brand new, do I have the right to return it within a certain amount of time?

I'd imagine that whoever you paid the money to is liable for getting the correct part for your car. As its a specialised service then you rely on Renault to provide the correct order and service, if they ordered the wrong part for your car then they are clearly liable. I may be wrong but hopefully someone else can clarify as well. Cheers.

They were umming and arring a bit about the part but I had my brother ask around and he was given the same part number from another Renault garage so I felt pretty confident.

It usual for all special order parts to be non returnable, if they ordered the part you asked them too. If you gave the wrong details and they ordered the part based on that, then its your error not theirs. I have learnt that its best to go into the dealer to order taking the old part with you, that way they can check all the details and you are covered if they get the wrong one.

Did they show you the part on the screen and its spec? They are supposed to show you the details including a picture to help you make the correct choice?

they did but it didn't have any of the details showing the conectors which are wrong

Yep, if you were the one who gave the order/part number then theres not a lot you can do about it I'm afraid.

What you should have done was have the car checked over and have a mechanic tell you which part it needed and gotten them to order it based on their evaluation of the part needing replaced.

YOu can always sell it on on ebay, have had to do that a couple of times
