What AV and Malware software are you using?

I managed to get malware on my PC the other day which was triggering loads of popups etc, even with a well known business brand AV installed along with Malware software, it took a variety of software to get it clean again.

does anyone have any recommendation on current software which has a good catch rate?

    Thanks very much

    avast free

Malwarebytes is my goto software for malware removal, although I have no experience of its prevention properties.

I use Avast free with Malwarebytes Antimalware Premium (real time scan), been pretty solid the last couple of years or so.

Oh, been running Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (for ransomware) since it was released, but it hasn't had a hit yet...

By the way, I get loads of pop ups depending on which dodgy part of the net I am using. Pop ups may be indicating a good catch rate in real time, rather than an established infection.

Thanks i was using avast but had issues with it corrupting images so switched to sophos home along with malware bytes, then every browser kept hijacking searches and modified my hosts file

It took ages to try and resolve

    bitdefender free AV

    Malwarebytes

    Ublock browser blocker

latest kaspersky for me, always found to be decent and don't mind paying a reasonable amount for this sort of software.

Malwarebytes is anti malware and runs an on demand scan. Its not an antivirus so can run alongside any AV software. I have Avast and MBAM installed, and also MB Anti exploit.

I just run MBAM scan occasionally for piece of mind.

Always be careful where you get software from, CNET for example could bundle you with malware which makes you think you didn't clear it the first time.

I use a Mac too but would still recommend an AV product. Currently using Sophos Home which covers not only my Mac but other Windows PCs in the house - Best of all it's free

    Ublock or Ublock Origin?

Curious to understand, why not use Adblock? or adblock Plus (both have the settings to turn off "allow some non-intrusive adds"

    Cheers

Malwarebytes - can get premium version off piratebay

Thanks everyone i pulled the network connection whilst i was scanning so it couldnt pull new malware and viruses down hopefully im safe to connect again

Just run noscript and don't be silly with what pages you're accessing and receiving content from.

I use Malwarebytes now too for periodic scans after a lot of content changes.

Thanks everyone wouldnt care was looking for a tool to extract a vmware image does anyone use kaspersky if so whats it like?

Comodo internet security free version has been spot on for me for a few years no trouble at all. It has both firewall and antivirus.

I scan the system using malwarebytes again free version. Never really had issues. For popups, install browser add ons adblock pro or adblock plus or similar add ons. Thisshould resolve most of the popup problems. All the above are free ! Never had any issues.
