What do you reckon is the cheapest sports car to insure?

I have saved up £2,500 to spend on a car, i have decided to buy a sports car. What car do you reckon i should get with the money and has to be cheap on the insurance at around £1,500.

With 2.5k why not get an MX5? Rear wheel drive, 1.6 or 1.8, really reliable and insurance cheap. I've a Mark 1 and my insurance is less than £300 - mind you, I am over 30!!!!

lol end up crashing that haha

Midlife crisis MarzBarz...............what's that? Also another benefit of a 2-seat car is that you NEVER EVER end up being the nominated driver - a real plus.

In terms of insurance - Liverpool Victoria and Asda are supposed to be cheap....

    S:-)

Get a named driver - parent/OH with no claims - will slash the insurance cost

pug 307 sxi, i have one, looks sweet, drives good and doesnt cost the earth, you could proberly get a 2003/2004 if you barter well enough. mine has leather interior, 6 cd multi, electric mirrors/ windows/ect

Does it just need to look sporty (Tigra) or have some real power behind it?

Careful about naming a parent as driver, if its ur car and u drive it, they will look dimly on insurance

    Suzuki cappuccino.

yeh but with a sports car you wont be able to use the back seat for fun

There's nothing wrong with naming your parents as drivers even if they virtually never drive it, the problem is if they are the policy holder and you put yourself as named driver when you are actually the main driver.

    John

My first car was an MX5 and was pretty cheap to run/insure nothing ever went wrong with it and you could pick one up so cheap now, not sure it's what you're after but great car and turned on a sixpence, loved it :-D

If you are the main driver but choose to name a parent as the main driver in order to reduce premium, I believe this is caleld Fronting and is illegal. Whereas if you name them as an additional driver, this will reduce your premium (not as much) but is 'acceptable'.

Gen 1 Hyundai Coupe.... pick one up for about £1100.

    I got an R Reg 1.6 MX5 as my 1st car

Cost me £1500, spent £1000 on it over the course of the year & sold it for £2800 12 months later !

    Group 20 insurance nubblet.

Insurance will kill you at 17 for anything. I know 17 year olds driving 1.0 Corsas who are paying around £2500 a year fully comp - location is a big factor also.

u will need to get yourself as a second named driver otherwise you wont be able to afford it, do you want an actual sports car or a car that has the performance of one???

Going back a bit now, but yes. If I remember correctly, it was new wheels, tyres, central locking & an alarm.
