What do you use for video editing?

Hey all, hope someone can offer some advice here. .

I have been making a music video, using Cyberlinks Power Director which I bought a couple of weeks ago, I find it great, but the transitions are a bit weird in it, they crossover the video which is not what I am looking for!!

Does anyone know of any other good video editing programs, excluding Premier Elements, Pinnacle and Vegas Studio (Tried those)!!

    Thanks for any help.

Thats the thing they are all super complicated!! The one that came with Vista was very good, a little on the basic side but it is better than the trash that you can get on windows 7 - Cyberlink is a good balance of basic and complicated but its still a little too basic!

windows movie maker on XP is pretty good im guessing win 7 might have something like that, depends how you want the video to be in terms of transitions etc

Sony vegas isn't too complicated and is a very good editing software

    I use it a lot

It's not too hard to get used to once you know the basics

I use Pinnacle. Its a little ropey (crashes often) but remembers where it crashed and opens at the same points. It produces great video - rather than burn to disc, I create an 'iso' first and then 'burn' as many copies as I want e.g. weddings, church events etc. It has great menus and the ability to add smart soundtracks i.e. it fist perfectly (begining, middle & end) the video you add it too.

It does 'green screen' and you can have fun with that. I got a guy to take a video of a ski run, got another to dress up as if they were shkiing and superimposed the latter by watching the footage and directing left, right etc. Worked really well, was even better when at public showing, I did an outake without the green screen being activated and showed me saying left, right etc and 2 guys hodling the green screen and laughing at the antics.

Depending on the version, you can burn to wav, blu-ray, dvd, video cd, mov. iphone, psp etc.
    Hope this helps:thumbsup:

I use Premiere Pro. It can take time to learn to use, but once you do, it's very powerful. (It's not that difficult to learn, I managed to teach my mum :P)

I found the same, I was put off by a lot of the video editing applications as they seemed very cluttered in their design making them difficult to learn. I guess if you're familiar with that type of work it's designed better but I'm not much of a video editing person and was just looking for a program a little better than Movie Maker that could handle AVCHD.

To date I've been really pleased with Vegas and its results, I think the interface is relatively clean and simple making it less of a chore to use and more satisfying. Recently I was putting a clip onto DVD and initially was only going to just do a straight forward burn but a couple of hours later I had a DVD with chapters, menu screen, thumbnails, backgrounds and menu music as it just seemed relatively easy and straightforward to keep adding parts.

There is loads to choose from , each with good/bad points . I like Sony Vegas , but also use Serif Movie Plus [have versions 4 , 5 ,and the X version which I dont like ] but for quick capture and editing and putting straight onto disk you cannot beat Pinnacle .I've used version 9 and have NEVER had a dropped frame yet when capturing through Firewire in all the years of using it .Serif is a very good package and can quckly do some nice affects like PiP etc, only downside is in the early versions you had to use a 3rd party program to put your result onto DVD although it was supplied ..........Sonic DVDit. It's no trouble though and makes a very good job of authoring .Of course ,if you only want to render your work as a file then that's OK .

For Windows I use Adobe Premier Pro. I looks incredibly complicated but is straight forward once you get to grips. The only two tools you really need are the "BLADE" tool (Hotkey: V) and "ARROW" (Hotkey: A (I think)). I've recently finished editing a music video and the hardest part really was just syncing the track up to the performance. If you have access to a Mac I would recommend Final Cut (as EVERYONE would :P).

I'm pretty new to HUKD so I'm not sure if link sharing is allowed on here but you can check out what i did anyway at: youtube.com/wat…wdA

It's a video I made for my mate's band. It turned out pretty well I think to say I tought myself FCE in about 3 weeks.

Good job on the music video.

With the video's i make, I concentrate more on the colouring aspects and working with different angles. All of my videos are footy ones though

    ]Example

I use my staff...oh you mean software? Think the last video editing I had done by someone for a project/presentation they used Premiere Pro.

That's pretty cool. Are those clips taken by yourself or do you use archive stuff?

To say I am an experienced editor would be a massive overstatement :-D But that was the first big conceived idea I shot and edited alone so I tried not to give myself too much work haha. I find colour correction quite interesting which is why I experimented with it in my vid

It's all good though. And I'm assuming, from that video, you are a Man Utd fan so WIN WIN!

Yeah, you posted links just as I posted that question

World Cup should be interesting this year. And it starts on my birthday! WOO! I too am displeased with the outcome of the season. I'm not a Chelsea empathiser.
