What Happens If You Buy Something With a Credit Card - Then Realise The Site Isn't Real - Can You Claim Back ?

    Just after some advice.

Long shot - and i know its his fault - my OH has bought something from a Chinese site (I know) which looked like it was Links of London - he paid with a credit card - is it his hard cheese or are we cover by insurance (long shot !) does anyone know ?

I'm no expert but if it was a credit card, you should be able to call your bank and get them to do a chargeback (think thats what its called).

Not had experience of this but i should imagine you wil be covered.

i think it has to be over £100 to make a claim, could be wrong though

    thanks-rep'd you all - it was a pressie - and don't think it was as much as £100 - i hope it wasn't !!!

He is feeling very daft - he is usually really good at stuff like that - i am just cross that they are so sly !

This is correct but does depend on your card issuer. Get incontact with your card company ASAP and report this to them, they then set out an investigation.

thanks-rep'd you too - its Priority Club - i suspect we will have to take it as a lesson learned the hard way:oops:

dont forget to cancel your card if you want to be on the safer side

I would inform the card company anyway, you don't know if it's been cloned either.

he ordered it a few days ago - its only because it hasn't arrived he went back and checked and the tracking number when it was put in took him to the Chinese postal service ! Think we will get something - but not what he thought he was buying - and probably make me arm go green in aday ! So its probably too late to cancel it - the payment will have gone:oops:

Is this the same with PayPal too? I've had people do chargebacks from their credit cards when the amount has been something as small as £10?

yea - i know - he ordered it a week ago -the site said 3 to 5 days delivery - and when it didn't arrive he has gone to chase it - if he had realised it was from China he wouldn't expect it to be here - he thought he had bought it from the site in London

the item might even be fairly decent, china stuff isnt all bad, but i'd have gone through ebay and used paypal not gone with CC, i wouldnt go that far

but have to allow extra shipping time 3-5 days, they said it, but never happens from china, more like 2 weeks

might still be a good idea to get a new car issued, cc numbers and china are a bad mix

how do you know the site is fake? Please dont say you are basing this on the fact that the site is Chinese!

and check your card transactions online.
