What happens if you dont pay US customs charge?

Found 9th Feb 2012
Ok basically just bought something from America on eBay which has cost me around £135 which was a few £ more than I wanted to pay to begin with really but just got caught up in last second bidding.

So just now Ive received through the mail a letter from Parcel Force saying that they are wanting £35.01 in customs charges. Never bought anything from overseas Im quite shocked TBH.

What happens if I dont pay this? will the item be sent back to the sender or will I be forced to pay?

I suspect it will be returned to sender and you'll be able to get a refund. You really should have thought about this beforehand though - hardly fair on the seller is it.

I know, its just more than I realized.
sent back.
you can usually get away with putting a lower value than the item is worth and declaring it as a gift (this is how a lot of the china/hong kong sellers avoid import charges when they send items)

huge fee? £8 is cheaper than it would cost you to collect it from customs
Obama will come round your gaff and roundhouse you in the ****. Best pay up.
Just pay it! Your fault for not doing your homework before bidding.

you & your OH sound like the ebayers from hell tbh

First your OH gets done for shill bidding, you ask about bidding on a USA item with no international shipping, then you sell something in 'good condition' with parts missing and think the buyer is out of order for wanting a refund, and now you want to avoid a customs fee!

£8 might not be alot to you, but to some people its an hour and a halfs pay from work for something that royal mail/parcel force would be doing anyway, as they will need to go pick it up from customs whether, or not, it needs extra paying on it

Gee mate you have a good memory

well don't bid on stuff from outside the EU if you don't like the £8 fee, its not like it isn't easily found.

Is it this item - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330679256450#ht_500wt_715

Maybe you should just pay the fee and you could wear it during love making.

I once ordered $1200 of clothing from California at a great discounted price - around £320 - customs billed me for £67ish and I paid that day as it was still a bargain. The second lot, at similar prices went through without charge. Its ALWAYS a chance you take and must be factored in to the final price you pay.

I have this happen often with USA buyers. If I get an item returned because they didnt bother to collect it or pay the duty, some courier companies will still show the item as being delivered once it returns to sender :-)

If not then I just send them a recorded letter telling them they can pay for re-shipping the item or arrange to collect the item from the UK and I use that as tracking and proof of delivery in the event of any Paypal dispute.

Quite likely the seller will take a similar approach to you.

Extradition to the u.s. for you. No charges needed nowadays theyll just come and whisk you away oO
It's not fair to let it go back OP - also you will lose out on the postage costs that the seller paid.

Just take it on the chin and know for next time

I'm staggered that you thought the item would be returned and the seller would have to refund you the postage as well! oO
I can't decide whether you are plain stupid or mean, op. Or both.

When the item is returned to the USA, there may be a collection cost for the seller, I'm not 100% sure but I do recall a buyer on ebay forums having to pay an extra cost because they did what you have done.

I think you should stick to buying things in person from a shop in future as internet buying is not for you.
Is there a 'tard' badge available here now?

Surely the OP qualifies?
Its c**p like this that makes me hate Ebay.
What a joy that they removed the facility to leave a neutral/negative for people like this, the next seller with the misfortune to deal with these kinds of buyers has no idea they mess people about.
What happens if you dont pay US customs charge?

You'll be publicly exposed as a shyster.

in b4 op is selling "timeshares" on the costa del sol

maybe think before asking dumb questions next time then we'll think less of your gimp thinking
you will be a criminal in the US and appear on their interpol wanted list. this means you can never go on holiday to florida ever again.
Unbunch our panties?

You need to learn about personal responsibility, fair play and about facing up to the consequences of your actions.

You also come across as.petulant, spoilt , selfish and have a complete lack of community values, as well as lacking in moral fibre.

That is constructive criticism.
