What is the best Value 3G or 4G Data Sim on the market ?

Hello I need a mobile data plan that is good value. Have really given up on 4G, as I don't think I have any coverage in my part of Hertfordshire, even though coverage checkers tell you there is....its either very sketchy / non-existent. So best value 3G data sim would be great...Not bothered if contract or PAYG - value is more important. I'll be using it via a dongle or mifi type device and need it for wireless connection of a laptop. Any help appreciated....

Thanks Poppyj1 - I did try one or two before posting......it's just such a minefield - the charges for data/GB seem to be extortionate in comparison to talk time - I think that's just the way it is, maybe as everyone and their mother seems to have a tablet these days - and they are keeping prices high in a cartel type fashion....very few if any good deals knocking about....and those that appear seem to be short lived.

I would be interested to know what others are paying for their data sims, and if you're happy with the service......as its not only about the cost..........its about being able to connect and having a good reliable signal too....so please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences

Roughly how much data do you use each month?

Thanks for your reply Inactive - Well I need it to use for mobile access to websites either financial or spreadbetting ones, which I have never used properly via a mobile laptop. They tend to be data intensive.....so I would have thought as a bare minimum somewhere between 2-3GB/month maybe ideally up to 5 GB.

Ideally if there is a pay as you go sim which comes preloaded and lasts 90 days....that would be perfect...as I could gauge what I use, and just buy another when it runs out......rather than committing to a contract straight away

You could order a few of these, just change them when they run out.

Note they are Nano Size, so may need an adapter.

Thanks Inactive...that's fantastic...will defo go for one of those. Any idea about what device I should go...Mobile Wifi / Mobile Mifi / or USB Dongle ?

I take it you can just swap out the sims in those, is that right Inactive ?

I would suggest a mifi unit - will work with jut about any device. I have a Huawei unit and it only accepts full SIMs and warns not to use adaptors, so probably best to choose the mifi and then the SIM.
Prepaymania uysually have some good deals on pre-pay SIMs.
If you are travelling, depending on your destination, a 3 SIM may be useful for their 'Feel at Home' facility.

look for a Alcatel Y800 on the bay (mifi unit)

can be had for under £30

    or £45 on CEX

very good units and 4G - and easy to unlock if you get the EE version

full size sim but can be used with an adapter with some care

As others have suggested, get a mifi unit, preferably unlocked, so that you can use any network, I use these Nano size Sims with an adapter, no problem.

I use an unlocked TP-Link Mi Fi from Amazon, I think it was £39, but well worth it, it is so much better than a Huawei that I have.
