What is there to do and see in Liverpool on a budget?

Will be there over the weekend in a couple of weeks. Accommodation sorted.

Any recommendations for restaurants, events, freebies?

    Joy riding!

trip down matthew street, lots of good bars and very good atmosphere, lots of Beatles memrobilia, a new complex called 'Liverpool 1' is very good too, especially this time of year ie ice rink , fair ground etc

    Foods good in Chinatown

Op, do you work for the NHS? Was going to ask the Same question....

Either of the cathedrals, either end of hope st.
    Visit the pier head.
Take the ferry across the mersey.
Try the museums as they're free (maritime one in the Albert dock)
Go for a walk around the Albert Docks.

yeah, though I dont think I've ever ventured over to Birkenhead for a night out (well why would you). I used to work with a few people who lived in Wirral and hated Liverpool, and then there was that famous billboard poster recently saying brick up the tunnel etc paid for by the Wirral. Tend to get a lot of wools from the Wirral at the matches as well, always say to them why aren't they following their local team Tranmere?!
