What items, if anything, are 'cheap'(er) in America?

Just wondered if anyone knew, I know it used to be sports clothes and designer items (bags etc) but with the change in dollar/pounds and obvioulsly things being much easier to buy on the internet I just cant even guess anymore!

    Cheers

cheaper for the americans.....and the europeans

    not for us

    Game consols

    not a lot!
i used to import radio control aircraft to sell in my shop but it's just not worth it now

not much really atm, with the exchange rate being crap

Cars, houses, electricals, golf clubs, food, drink, theme parks.
Why is it we live here, again ?

beef jerky and cowboy boots (and hats)

Blank cd's and dvd's and pc memory.
In fact read it wrong thought you meant cheaper here lol.

We had a good look, beforehand on the on-line sites, last year - WalMart etc for electronic items and there was no gain, except we did find an HD cam-corder for a good price. Nothing else in that line and I would think it's worse now.

Think you need to go to Australia for them - judging by the numbers bought by my fellow holiday makers last March. Seriously, I don't know. Get on the JC Penney Macy's etc sites.

I always found camera kit listed cheaper over there because of VAT but it you get caught out at customs they will charge you it anyway....

GHD's can give you website if you want, they do options on Brittish plugs too!

Harley Davidson stuff for sure is cheaper, if you know a HD rider and you're going to the States mention it to them and they will bite your hand off to bring goodies home again.

I had a similar conversation with an American colleague, and we went through all of the above, and I thought he was onto a very good thing, until I heard how much he pays for his healthcare insurance, and the sort of expenses he has to pay which arent covered by insurance.

I wont be after these....although......gues it would be an unforgettable experience :?

I got a pair of Timberland boots at an outlet store for $80 in September, think it worked out around £50 (they're usually £130+ here).

Laptops are cheaper too, but if you get stung with customs it really ain't worth it.....

Do you remember Wayne Roonys bint getting stung with a huge custome bill, after a massive shopping trip in NYC?

There is a set limit of what you can bring back, from memory I think it was $200, you could remove all packaging and post yourself the receipts to avoid charges by claiming you hadnt bought them out there.

Or take pot luck with customs, my oh bought loads of stuff, including 9 pairs of shoes and 5 handbags, and we went straight though customs.

It's the US customs that will charge you when taking things out of the country. If you're a non-US resident I think the limit is around $150 worth of goods (or thereabout, I've heard from $100 to $250 before), if you get stopped with more than this they can charge you.
