What Kind Of Cable Do I Need To Hook Up My Xbox 360 To Xbox Live?

I'm going to buy a network cable to hook my xbox 360 up to xbox live and i just wanted to be certain it didn't have to be a certain type of cable. Do i need RJ45 or CAT6 or does it not matter as long as it's an ethernet cable?

Mine came with one, check your box, should have one as long as its not Core/Arcade

RJ45 is the type of connector and CAT6 is the type of cabling. Any ethernet cable should be fine.

yeah, it should have come with one, unless u bought it second hand. But either way its a standard CAT5 netwrok cable with RJ45 connector

I'll have a check now. Only problem is i need at least 15m because my router is at the other side of the house on a different floor.

Just checked and it's there but it doesn't look nearly long enough.

Edit: Make that 20m, just checked.

    its about 3m I think

Doesn't a long lead cause it to slow down? Wouldn't you be better wireless?

MY pc's linked up by a 20m cable (360 is in same room) and there doesn't seem to be any problems with speed on that. I'll just keep my fingers crossed. I don't want to fork out on £55 for a wireless card for it when i can get a cable for less than a fiver.

    Thanks for the help people.

    not neccessarily

and even then you are much more likely to get a better connection than wireless, or at least a more constant speed

does anyone know what the difference is between a straight cable and a crossover cable?

Edit: i just found out. Crossover is computer to computer, straight is for router to computer (or in this case, xbox 360).

a straight cable is what you want as that is a standard cable. a crossover cable is something which you can use to connect 2 machine directly without the need for a router. a "system link" cable for the xbox (and 360) is a crossover cable where you connect 2 together.

If your PC is in the same room just stick it into the back of that.

Thats what I did and it works fine.

Plug it in, create a bridge and done...5 mins job
