    What OS?

    Morning!

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook, currently running a Linux OS, but I just can't get on with it - I am sure it's great but having lived with windows for nearly 15 years I just understand that better!

At the moment I only have the half GB of RAM in the Acer, but am going to take the plunge and pop another GB in which is the maximum it will support.

So, is XP still the best option as an OS on a netbook, or will Windows 7 be a decent option?

    Thoughts?

    Cheers
    James

I think it's a ZG5 model. I got it from the Asda deal that was on here a year or so ago I guess - has 120GB hard drive. I'm fascinated by why XP and 7 seem fine and yet Vista is a no no? I've seen this a lot and don't really get why that would be!!

yes both xp and win 7 will be fine on that pc, xp probably slightly better as it has the smaller footprint (win7 will take at least 8GB to install
vista is no good as it is a bloated pile of dodo's

512 ram on a netbook with XP wont be all that bad really, its not as though you multitask or run photoshop on it

i would install xp first, and see how it runs before taking it apart

the most important thing is do you have enough hard drive space? is this netbook one of the ones with flash drive rather than hard drive?

Fitting the ram isnt difficult if your not an idiot and can follow a simple guide. ive done 2 and it was no headache really.

also installed 7 on gf's acer over xp and its much quicker
