Other than the HUKD ones, what RSS feeds do you all use?? Anything particularly odd, fun or interesting?

Do share... I might be able to do something fun with them.

That is so funny, the only way you could do fun things with my feeds would be to delete them :giggle: :giggle: Can't see too many people interested in anti terrorist equipment, safety equipment & vehicles, 3 news feeds, 26 industry feeds and a few shop/HUKD ones as well ...... I am obsessed :whistling:

Well people are creating RSS mash-ups and I'm trying to get ideas for something interesting to make.

Never used it, don't know how to and no interest in it.

Well... I'm trying to mix RSS feeds.

For example, there's one which shows links to YouTube music videos based on the iTunes Top 10 feed.

I was trying to create one which would link to a QuidCo merchant from the HUKD RSS feed but there wasn't enough information in the feed to do it.

Back on topic:

I work an hour away from home using 4 different motorways, so I find the highways agency rss feed very helpfull. tell you where road accidents are and how long the delay is.

I usually end up checking it through the rss reader on my k800 when stuck in traffic.... kinda defeating the object really

Dino... they can be pretty helpful. For example, when I open my web browser all of the new mobile deals here on HUKD come across the bottom of the screen in a little ticker so I can see what's been done during the day and take a look at them.

Don't you miss the 'other' things on HUKD, such as people wanting help, 'new hot deals' etc? When I log in to the sites that I post on, I check the forums out first, to see if I can 'help' anybody (even if I am having a bad day :-( ) then I have a look at what's 'hot'.
Do you not lose the 'personal' touch with the RSS feeds? Miss out on 'interesting' stuff?

it depends how you want to do things. If I'm an expert on phones or only interested in them then I can just look at the phones stuff in Hot Deals then look at other areas of the site.

As it is, I check the new mobile deals from the RSS feeds then I check through Hot Deals for replies to other phone threads and then I nip down to the mod area, comments and suggestions, then off to Misc. Try to drop in on Deal Requests too.

But you can appreciate that having feeds helps if you're just loggin on in the morning of before you have to nip out somewhere just to take a look at what's been going on.

And a ticker isn't the only way to do it. My email client (thunderbird) will list RSS feed results pretty much like emails. They're all very flexible.

I RSS Neowin, Coolsmartphone, Coolsmartphone creaters blog (Gears Blog) and HUKD (all and front page)

It does sound very interesting. I'll have a play with it later and let you know what I think.

RSS is somewhat easy on XP Pro but a pure pussycat on Vista, click and it starts straight away - very cool.

If anyone was put off by it on XP or lower (as I was) give it another try when you UG to Vista

I have been advised by the 'nerds' (Not a detrimental term) not to install Vista yet. I'll give RSS on XP a go when I have time.

I wonder what sort of person a nerd is? are they a gamer? are they one of these people that do a lot of P2P stuff, what OS are they running and are they running with their own licenced software????

If no-one tries to run Vista then MS will not be able to correct any mistakes and it will be even longer before it is widely used. I know it is expensive (for now) but just by looking a little further a field you can get some great deals, oh and yes your pc will have to be able to run it. BTW don't buy the 4Gb memory pack no computer can use the full 4Gb ~ so a waste of money for you but not them.

4GB RAM you mean?

4gb isn't needed for normal use, Just for high end graphics work.

2GB is probably the max a normally person needs (If a high end gamer etc)

And most would be fine running on 1gb-1.5 gb.

Your right, just corrected it  I was told yesterday by my engineer that no machine can use the last 1/4 of a 4Gb of RAM, it will only use 3Gb the last 1Gb is used by the computer and of no use to you whatsoever, so just in case anyone wanted to save a few pennies and hold off on a useless purchase ;-)

You can use 4gb RAM but you need a 64bit OS instead of the 32 bit standard.

Computers use Memory mapped input/output (MMIO) to manage installed devices (RAM, Graphics cards etc) and is limited to manage a max of 4gb. If the total of your installed devices exceeds 4GB you need a 64bit OS...

Windows xp pro only supports or see's 3.25gb anyway.

64bit had driver issues last time.

But, whilst we're talking about nerds - I'm on Vista. I like vista, although it's not worth all of the extra money as it's pretty much just "shiny XP", i.e. almost the same functionality as XP with a few nice looking features.

I couldn't go back now though.

Firefox Live Bookmarks: VCDQuality, HUKD, The Register, MyEpisodes, BBC News.
ducky take a look at yahoo pipes (if you already haven't that is) for the mashups you want to do. I've played around with it and its really slick.
