What to do with a £100 Gamestation gift card

I recently made a complaint to Gamestation head office about a breach in their privacy policy. They apologised perfusely and gave me a £100 gift card and kindly requested that I took no further action.

I don’t really ever buy anything from Gamestation and would rather have the cash. Would I be better off selling the gift card or would I make more trading in my old Xbox 360 20GB and using the gift card to purchase the new slim 250GB console and then selling that?

Or maybe there's something I can buy from Gamestation that I can sell to CEX for similar money?

Only thing that puts me off doing that is that my Xbox is in perfect condition and boxed like it was new so could possibly get more for it if sold privately.

i'll take it off your hands!

Trade in the Old 360 and treat yourself to a new 250GB 360S, they'll roughly give you £40-50 trade in for the old one, and It's unlikely to cost you anything on top.

Treat yourself

I would just try selling it to be honest personally it's too much hassle trying to buy and sell something I doubt you'd get £100 anyway.

Can I ask how they breached their privacy policy?

I was just validating your idea!!

*Edit, so you don't actually want your 360 at all?....*

If I bought something from Gamestation and sold it to Cex down the road, it's not much effort TBH.

Gamestation sent me an e-mail detailing someone else’s personal information.

You got £100 for that, wonder what the other guy got.

Suppose you could ask him knowing his details

Haha I don't think he will have realised. Apparently only a small number of people were affected anyway.

Who knows, someone else could have received an e-mail from Gamestation with my details in it! Wasn't as good as when I caught Microsoft breaching the Data Protection Act, they sent me a Crystal Xbox with some other Xbox goodies X)

without revealing the guys details, can you tell me what kind of information was detailed, was it name and address or bank details ect

I would have reported it to the data commissioner, as data breaches are very serious, and £100 is nothing compared to the damage that can be caused by a compromise of data security. In fact I would still report it, and complain that you were offered money to keep it quiet. I would also inform the CEO of Game exactly what has happened, and what actions you are taking. A good CEO would never have tried to bribe you, but would have reported it himself with an action plan to stop these events ever happening again.

Just name and address.

I'm happy with what they offered. I'm sure steps were taken to avoid the same mistake happening again. Everybody makes mistakes.

Very Mature, and my dad is bigger than your dad!

Same thing happened yesterday. Looks like they haven't made any improvements since.

If your CEX is down the road ask Gamestation to price match and they will beat it by a pound
