Is it Palma or Palma Nova you're going to? Palma is the main city there and would presume it would be open as usual at that time of year for residents and tourists alike. Its a busy busy place with shops, offices and sightseeing etc. Palma Nova is more a tourist hotspot and I've been several times - love it!! Not sure if its like a lot of places on Majorca that start to close down towards the end of October. Been to a few places there in middle of October and they seem to wind down around then, Callas De Mallorca etc. Palma Nova is quite a big holiday place though and right next to Magaluf so really don't know if that actually shuts from October onwards.
Majorca is quite big and has a large population to support, I would say so. Though you might not be able to buy a bucket and spade X)
If you are going to Palma yes quite a lot is still open.
The rest of the island is near enough dead, we went in November the year just gone.

Thanks everyone. Yeah it's Palma were going to.
We returned from Alcudia and went to Palma for a day trip in October this year. It was very quite there. A lot off the shops had shut down. The season finished a week or so after we returned so it was expected. We usually go Costa Dorada and cant make up our minds if we should go back to Alcudia or back to Salou.
