Except it don't start with H

However, I hope that there is a word 'orknob'. English vocabulary is a rich, rich, soup.

"That that is is that that is not is not is not that it it is."
"That that is, is; that that is not, is not. Is not that it? It is."

Wouldn't "Heroin" work as well: he, her, hero, ore, re, rein, i and in

Heroin wouldn't work like that - you can't change the orders of the letters. Hasten on the other hand has at least 8 - or if you are using certain dictionaries a few more (st, te are also both recognised as 'words')

That said, 'er' is also recognised as a word so herein actually has 9...

harden - the opposite of soften
arden - the opposite of soften to a Cockney
har - the sound someone from Buckinghamshire makes when they hear a Cockney speak
harde - having listened and understood, to a West Country person
arde - being tough to a Cockney
rden - the act of rounding up farm animals, to a Swede
en - the 14th letter of the alphabet
den - a place that Cockeys, West Country people, and Swedes hang out in, often with farm animals
