What would you class as a fair offer?

Hey Peeps..

Its been a long time folks... hope everyone here at HUKD's is keeping well.

Just needed a little advice.. i've seen a number plate I want to buy which is up for sale for £2800. It is open to offers but I'm a little unsure as to what would be a reasonable offer for a number plate at this price.
All suggestions welcome!

in these days of money hard to get, make him any offer you like, i doubt if he is fighting them off

number plates arnt valued more guessed at anyway, so he cant just as for near offers

if you think you only want to pay 500, then offer that, bearing in mind, its probably worthless once you buy it, as its a problem to sell on

Its actually being sold by a company that own the plate... i dont think it would sell that quicky as \my name is not that common however \i dont want to put a ridiculous offer and then they think im wasting their time:thinking:

Ask to see the valuation certificate if you can... They maybe selling in excess of what its really worth!

any offer isnt wasting of time, they are only guessing its value, as really its worthless to all but a few people who would pay for a number plate

make your offer, dont be afraid, its not as though they will say 'dont ever call back'

Would need to know the plate number to give an idea of value. It's worth what someone will pay for it, mine was £250, cheap as chips as no-one else wants my (real) name so is of no value to anyone. Of course, it's of immense value to me, as my name is so peculiar its lovely to have something personalised. It was a gift to me, and is so much better than a mug with my name on!

Bit hard to judge without actually knowing what the the plate is:roll:

Yes definitely do that! Mine was £250 also... Got it from the DVLA website - other websites charged a hell of alot more for the same plate, so I guess it also depends on where you buy it from:oops:!

what a rotten plate, i'd pay £250 for it

the plate says len, not lena!

personally i would not think it worth more than 500, but even then I wouldn't pay it ;-)

on a side issue, if you try to make the plate look like your name you are liable for a fine of £60, and then have to get a correct style plate which is not mis spaced and in some cases when people don`t comply DVLA can take back your plate without you getting a refund

the value of the plate depends a lot on how many numbers/letters it has as well as what it is, as the standard number plate is made up of something like XX00 XXX then if it is something similar to that it is not worth as much ours is like that we paid about £250 for it, but I know my brother in law paid quite alot for his, cant remember it exactly but was something like JONN 1E think he paid around the £3000 mark for it,

The shorter it is the more you can expect to pay for it, but would go with the valuation thing if you can get it. My hubby was after one that said J HAY but the guy was looking for about £5000 for it, so it really varies

yes but name is Lena and my suranme begins with S so that plate can say Lena S or Lena's its personal choice.. you dont have to like it but i do

I think the max i would pay for a plate is around 300. At a push.

Well this plate isnt quite my name but if you tried to look at it at a creative angle then it could be. I'm not going to use mounting screws to create letters and words like some people do. This plate is legit, it just happen to look similiar to my name

I did say that i'm NOT going to use mounting screws to change words... i dont need to. My mate is a copper and \i've just called him to check the plate wording and he said its fine. Because the plate includes a number it isnt classed a trying represent a name.

Thanks for the information.. really appreciate. Its one of those things that you cant base its value on anything because there is no other comparison. However I've never put an offer in for a plate before so I wasn't quite sure what is seen as reasonable, and what is classed as damn right daft!

Agreed not a chance you will buy a reg like that for a few hundred quid.

Bid them 1k :-D A bidding Man is a buying man, or women in this case

Probably wont do it though, surley there are loads of guys called Len? Not a popular name here, but surely this is the reason for the high price, well that and its quite short.

Good friend of mine has a 3 digit plate, his initials and one number.

Save money..Change your name to suit the plate....

as I said in my previous post it is worth more because there are less digits on it, if you are happy to pay £2k for it then maybe offer a bit less £1800 then you can go up a little if they think its too low, as for being a ridiculous price someone paid this >> The Number Plate 1 D Goes For A Record £352000

google'd it btw
