My son's going to his first birthday party and all we've been told is the boy likes minecraft. He's going to be 4, can anyone recommend a birthday gift for him, he's never been invited to a party before. How much do people normally spend on school friends birthday presents?

Mine craft lego

There's some good Minecraft t-shirts and hoodies at M&S or Argos right now (look out for them for my Minecraft-mad niece), some were recently in the Marks sale too if you're quick.

I normally spend £5 per party as my son's at one every other week since he's started nursery. at my son's party ppl sent about £5 a couple give him £10

Thanks everyone, i'll have a nosy about

We tend to aim for £10 including the card etc, unless it's one of their closer friends in which case we stretch a bit further.

it doesn't have to be Minecraft though, have a look at other superhero stuff as well. Tesco and Sainsburys both have some good Lego Junior sets for around the £5 mark as well

You've got to stock up on deals from here. If something is going cheap, buy a few. You've then got something which cost £3 but is usually £10.

Of course. You gave up the right to a social life when you had a child.

Boardgame, lego, 3D puzzle, football, rugby ball, cricket set, boy themed art set (marvel etc), croquet set, bubble gun....
You can regularly get all the above for less than £10 and usually 3 birthday cards for £1 in poundland.
I bulk buy off Amazon as per Dereks suggestion above when stuff is cheap.

omg I spend between £3 to £5, I must be tight.

we goto poundland and buy colouring books, pens, books anything like that, he still gets invited to party's and still has friends so can't be that bad.

I will say that when we have party's the range is massive, we have had people bring presents that must have cost £20 but most others do the same as us.

wait till he starts school, 30 kids possibly in a class, £10 per party £300 a year!!

This is why I've engineered my children to be as socially awkward as possible.

No friends = no parties, and also no picking up bad habits.

Everyone's a winner, right?

Between £5-£10 - usually go for 2 toys for £15 on offer in argos
