What's Butlins Minehead like?

Found 4th Jan 2009
Thinking of going for a few days, The package we've seen is a silver apartment with breakfast and dinner included in the price. For 2 adults 2 children and a baby it is only £320 pound for 4 days. This sounds really good so we were just wondering what it is like there, We dont want to go unless its really good as my husband NEVER gets time off so if we go somewhere we want a good time.

Thanks in advance for any help, I will be sure to add rep!

Food is a bit ugh but apartments are generally clean and I've always had a good time.

Plenty of cheap food places a five min walk into town

It really depends on how high your standards are.

Great place as long as you don't expect the Ritz.

cant go wrong for a few days i went about 15 years ago and it was spot on for entertainment, anything longer than 3/4days and you might struggle !

Are there any extra costs after getting there?

nope, they've been including electricity for a while now

new eating places in the arena aren't over priced either, as I recall many a late night/early morning burger

just remember if driving......one road in, one road out so make sure kids pee before leaving lol although plenty of pubs en route as traffic can be horrendous

Hiya Mumofthree!

Choc has more or less summed it up, but have you seen this as an alternative???

Nice enough place, but the food onsite is traditional Butlins food!

Have u looked at the sun £9.50 hols, I dont know the costing but it is usually cheaper. They do half board at Minehead.........

why dont you collect the sun papers for the next week
minehead is in there so you could go for £9.50 pp

btw been lots of times, and hoping to book again

Quite right, but the Sun do have half board as well if u have a look, so you have the choice. I would wait until the clocks change if you can as it is a bit of a shame to have to walk about in the dark most of the time !!

We nipped up for 4 days last year, my daughter wanted to see "Same difference"

It's what you make of it, if you go to have a good time.....you'll have a good time.

Make sure you go when they have some good acts on, you'll have much more enjoyable evenings.

We saw: Stephen Mulhern, Same Difference, Hoop-la-la & Hope.

Minehead is great for 3-4 days, go silver or gold accomadation as standard is very basic.
half board is great as you choose what you want and can go back for seconds.
the beach is across the road from the resort and the town is a five minute walk up the road.
Tescos is a few minutes walk away is you are on self catering option.

In the town is a private railway company with steam hauled trains, my kids loved it.

We went last year and had a great time, the only down side was when we went into town for a few drinks some of the locals telling a French tourist that the Butins resort was for low income families who rarely ventured out the resort and spent little money in the local community.

Cheeky git, i felt like telling him i was one of those Butlins guests and buy the way i've spent the last hour at this pub spending my so called low income money

Recommend a nearby pub in the town "The hairy dog". Kid friendly, good food and huge playfort for the kids to play in.

mmm depends when you go and who is there, I remember a christmas when the travelling community had gone down for the christmas /new years holidays... that was interesting

we went last july it was great, im looking for a caravan to go again in june/july x

would advise not to get the deals with food included. much nicer places to eat on site.

( speaking from past experience! )

Also would upgrade to the best accommodation you can afford.
