    What's the best way to get a single entry/3 month tourist visa for China (entering via Kyrgyzstan)

    Just toying with the idea of flying into Kyrgyzstan (free 60 day visa for UK nationals), and then heading through China to SE Asia. The Kyrg' part of things is easy and cheap....however, the Chinese visa application process seems more convoluted.

    So for anyone that has done it - what is the best price/provider of a Chinese visa? Is it best to go to the Chinese consulate in London...or would I be better served going through a visa provider? (who seem to charge ~£70 extra on top of the £85 normal visa fee)

    Many thanks

    I found this (from a link on the Chinese Embassy website);

    Visa fee for regular applications is £85...with an additional £66 fee for the service centre on top. Can I go in person and avoid that £66 service centre fee? (I visit London quite often....and would rather have the cheaper visa!)

    All visas for China are now 2 year multiple entry by default. There's no way of avoiding the service fee.

    Please note that if you're applying in person, you'll need to go twice. Once to make the actual application and once more to collect your passport / documents. This was the case when I applied last year.

    Wow...that's an unexpected development. (I remember reading a year or so ago about cycle tourer's entering via Kyrgyzstan in the north and then having to race to SE Asia before the 3 month visa expired!).

    Shame about the service fee - but I guess it gives me an excuse to head back to China once I'm done in SE Asia/Aus.

    What visa agency did you apply through? Any problems?

    I used the one you linked above.

    They are the only official one in London. The other centres are in Manchester and Edinburgh.

    The application form was pretty straightforward so there's no point using a third party agency.
