Cant you connect it upto your PC via your router using ethernet ?

Get a external hdd or usb stick , run the backup playstation from the menu, remember you will need to format the drive to fat32 (use program callled swissnife on your pc) back up. And install your new drive and restore from the drive .

its already connected , via net using ethernet cable, whats the best way to transfer it?

It will only transfer the data if it's formatted FAT32, if your PC is NTFS it won't do it.

I dont have a PS3 so not sure, but from reading the other posts in this thread, it sounds like you need a FAT32 partition on your computer, and then run the "Playstation Backup" utility from the PS3 and point the destination to the partition on your PC?

ok ill have alook cheers

I don't think it's possible to do it straight to P.C.
I would be interested to hear that it is possible though.

When I did it, I just used an 8GB micro SD card and did it a bit at a time.
