Just seen on the news that to take someone elses kids to say school you have to be vetted, does this mean that I have to be vetted to look after my partners 15 year old son which I have done for nearly 5 years?

Welcome to the free world everyone.

its only if the person doing the looking after is organised through a school or club-not if its a personal arrangement between individuals.

if a school for instance, organises a car pool for the school football team, then everyone needs vetted,if the parents arrange that car pool themselves then they dont so no,the op does not need to be vetted.

its new news in that they have extended the remit to include football clubs and other sports etc-whereas previously only those actually coaching the kids needed checked, now anyone giving them lifts to events needs to be as well, but ONLY if that carpool is arranged by the club rather than by the parents.

if you call me up and ask me to take your son to football practice then I dont need vetted,if the club call me then I do.

the individual has to pay the cost of their own check-therefore clubs are worried less people will get involved.

The whole situation is ridiculous - Have to be CRB cleared to take 4 teenagers by car, 2 miles to neighbouring school for a sports match, but no checks in place to have German youngsters on school exchange living in our house for a week - now which I think puts a young person more at risk ???? (and no comments about my driving, thank you!)

I'm in the process of beihng CRB checked for the U10's football club my son is at 'cos I help out evry now and then. Apparently tho' the rules change again next year to allow for one CRB check to be portable, not needing to be done each time at each organization.

Not sure that's true, as my FA coach has said the cost is not bourne by me, but by the club or organization as they need it, not me.
