Whats wrong with my internet??

Using the Virgin setup at home, an ancient modem and a cable wireless netgear router. We've historically had intermittent problems with it, its stable for a while, then goes off and on again. Phone line is fine, but seems the router can only accept 1 wireless connection at a time!

However, the PC isn't working at the moment, but managed to set up Xbox Live on it the other day wirelessly. This was working fine until the other half unplugged the modem and router overnight. I plugged it back in and now it won't work, saying i'm not being given an IP address? Tried connecting the xbox to the router via ethernet but still get the same response. As my computer isn't working, I can't go on and check any settings. Do I have any other option other than get a computer connected to it??

dont unplug it in future as you lose the settings when you do this. Dont know much about xbox, but are you able to set a static IP address?

your settings might only allow 1 connection at a time, it's a good security measure especially if you have one wireless device.

lol kk well it loses the settings and i am unsure what capabilties you have when just using an xbox as my suggestion would have been to access the router via pc and check its settings, by typing its IP address in to internet explorer and also then try and 'ping' it using command prompt.

what is wrong with current pc?
