This question comes up a lot in the FS/FT forum.
My question is, if the seller is asking £50 for example then surely that is the asking price (best price)? If every thread is going to have a "What's your best price?" post in it then what's the bloody point of enforcing the rule that sellers always need to state a price? It seems to me that stating an asking price is a complete waste of time, because no-one is going to pay it without trying to slice 25% off of it.
I think that the time has come to consider a rule where all buyers make offers, and leave it to the seller to accept or decline. It would be more fun too. As it stands, it is a worthless gesture to state an asking price as no-one ever wants to pay that price, however low or reasonable.
