Have heard that Stanwyx Park , Silloth is wheelchair friendly - worth checking out? and not too far to drive.

Centerparcs at Penrith might be a good choice.

i wonder if there are any self catering options near good places should consider maybe cottages or something, anybody got any suggestions?

There is a company called ]Hoseaons they do caravans, lodges and cottages. I used to work in a travel agents and often went to them when i had customer's with mobility difficulties. I would recommend calling them as the staff know exactly what park/lodge resort will suit you.

    Hope that helps

i often find this website suitable for help with visiting anywhere on holiday or at home .
I too am a wheel chair user and have ben on holiday at pontins in blackpool - now it is very basic but especially in the summer there is lots of things for the kids to join in with and pontins at blackpool is 1/2 board. If you speak to the reception at blackpool themselves rather than the original booking call centre then they have been most helpful. The only thing is that it is cheep and cheerful.... i think that i ended up staying for 4 days for £75 each for us 2 sharing so for less than £20 per night we had a secure base but it is VERY basic. Center parcs at windfell is a palace in comparison but like you said at least 10 times the price!!

I am going to butlins at skegness in a few weeks time and have heard that it is a dramatic improvement on pontins but because of the facilities available in their wheelchair accessible accomodation it does get booked up well in advance!

I would also say Centerparcs, when I need to use a wheelchair I dont have a problem getting around, and all of the staff are very helpful in the restaurants, activities, shops etc. This is from experience in Oasis whinfell and sherwood forest

You can get good deals for centerparcs, we are going next month - £350 for 6 person executive accommodation (comes with sauna etc) for mid-week break. Obviously its cheaper still going in the more basic accommodation which is perfectly adequate. You can also drive around the village if you need to (because you have someone who is disabled)

Going to CP in school holidays = 2nd mortgage. Was looking earlier and a 6 person executive for 4 nights in October half-term was £1,015!!! Having said that they do have excellent disabled facilities.

Watch out for codes on here or on the centerparcs website. They do sometimes include the school holidays. As mentioned earlier, we have paid £350 for a 3 bed executive right by the centre mid-week break, and when we booked the offer included the school holidays for the same cost.

Centerparcs is really expensive if you just book it, but we always get it for a reasonable cost by waiting until there is an offer on and booking then, this can sometimes be a long time in advance (we booked this one in about october 08) sometimes it is about a month before.

will keep a look out as havent been there yet, if i get a deal like you have will go indeed. thanks for info. cheers.

Centerparcs windfell is absolutely great - they do have adapted lodges - i stayed next door to a fully adapted exclusive lodge and could see that they had a hoist to get into the out door hot tub!!!

just a tip i found when there - if you are a wheelchair user both yourself and a carer/helper can access the aqua sana for £5 each. Now we went when on a mid week break and it should have been £30 each! per session. don't know why there is a consession possibly due to the plunge pool not having a hoist for accessibility???? but i was still able to soak up the ambiance and access many of the tranquility rooms and for a fiver my sister was over the moon - i think we used more than a fivers worth of elemis stuff when using the shower after we had finished!!
